Using 2001032704 on Win 2000.

It appears that news.mozilla.org is down right now (I can tell because in 4.7 I
get a server is not responding error).

On this build however, I'm getting an empty dialog that spans the width of my
screen.

The expected result is to get the error message that 4.7 displays.

In addition, when I started up this morning, I got an Unknown Error dialog which
I think occurred when it tried to get counts for this news server (hence the
reason I'm cc'ing bienvenu, because we'd talked about seeing this dialog)
My steps weren't very clear.

I get this empty, large error message when either clicking on a newsgroup or on
a message in this server that appears to be down.
I'm seeing this alert as well, after getting an assert in setting up the socket
transport. I guess it's because the server is down, as you say. I don't get an
alert msg as big as the screen, fortunately. :-)

Is this a label/value switcheroo XUL 1.0 change, guys?
Stephend, no it's not.

Before we used to hork when the server is down, now we display the NNTP
server's response, which ought to be something more helpful than a screen
filled with an empty dialog. ;)

Putterman, I'll close this as worksforme. I am pretty confident the particular
behaviour you experienced is fixed, although we might be able to improve it,
but that's another bug. :)

Yes, when news.mozilla.org was down yesterday (or was it the day before?), all
of my builds (OS 9.1, Linux and Windows 2000) all had the normal sized alert
dialog with the OK button.

Verified. Will re-file if I/we ever see again.
