Hello,

We're looking to set up a dedicated VPS server in order to install a *(Web)mail server so that we can provide an easy way to manage email for our communities. A dedicated (Web)mail server will give our communities an alternative to setting up their own mail server(s) or going with a third party service that they may have concerns with regarding privacy.

Thanks for your help.

Paul Booker

What is MCS?
https://wiki.mozilla.org/MCS & https://wiki.mozilla.org/MCS:Hosting .

Not sure if this is in the right component - ReMo won't see it here.
Paul, can you point us the the place where this is being discussed?

Thanks.
It has been discussed over on #MCS and #UK. We will use the server initially to set up a mail server for Mozilla UK.

If the server is going to be used as "Community email server" I think we need more discussion about it, since most communities are using their own servers now or google apps. A simple roundcube solution maybe it's too light, maybe a Zimbra all-in-one solution would be more correct.

Also we would need to define who will manage this server.
More discussion would be great. Let me know what you have in mind.

I would be available to help setup / manage the mail server and I know of two other members of the MCS community who have offered to help out.

Paul, point us to the thread so we can discuss there and then come back here ;)
I'd like to hear from IT first if this sounds "in scope." I'm not sure it's a good idea. It'll be a lot of work and there might be legal issues. IMO it makes more sense to have community IT volunteers help the sites manage their own email.

agreed. IT is too tight on resources to do this right now... If someone can get this past legal and opsec then we can talk about implementing it.
Let's leave this for now. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
