The multiple screens of profile information I can edit mean that I'm not sure if I need to press Update on a per-screen basis. When I do, I'm taken back to the main profile view screen, so if I want to continue editing my profile, I have to go back into the editing screen again and find the next editing screen.

Yeah, this is an odd experience. Bram, any suggestions?

The solution is to have a “View my profile page” or “Return to my profile” button somewhere on that page, that will do what it says on the tin. The update button should merely refresh a particular tab, rather than take user back to the profile page. Hitting cancel is the equivalent of saying “revert this change and reset my settings to what it was before I typed or clicked anything”, and then we should refresh that tab. The “Return to profile” button should be positioned somewhere faraway from update and cancel. Perhaps to the right of the text “Edit Profile”?

Perhaps to the right of the text “Edit Profile”? Agreed. Actually, the last piece was in the mock-ups as well. So, we'll need to add that in there. As for the update button, we'll need to make that update on a per tab basis for it to make sense.

This was resolved in dev, by putting all the profile fields on one big edit screen: https://mozillians-dev.allizom.org/en-US/user/edit/

Reopening for further discussion: The multi-page /user/edit/ workflow has been condensed into one page and is imho a vast improvement over the previous design. I suspect we may want to explore some additional UI enhancements to make the button more discoverable, especially on mobile devices. Currently to save an updated profile a user must scroll to the bottom of /user/edit/. This is cumbersome and potentially difficult to discover on a mobile device.

I agree that we should consider adding an update button at the top of the screen, but not because there is any confusion about /when/ to press the button. I think this bug should remain closed. Perhaps bug 898064 will address the concern in comment 5?

(In reply to Justin Crawford [:hoosteeno] from comment #6) > Perhaps bug 898064 will address the concern in comment 5? Good call and thank you for filing - agreed. Bumping to QA verified. Thanks Hoosteeno!
