A fair amount of this is feedback from 
snews://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.netscape6.windows and other feedback 
groups. In no particular order:

mail notification sound (bug 36025) and ability to customize (bug 64462)

Mark button should appear for newsgroups (bug 39694). Cosmetic: modern needs 
icon (bug 64243); button is disabled until message downloaded (bug 65263)

"Mail and News. That works well" (meaning performance, stability, UI solidity)

Need way to change font size in mailnews. Folks with bad eyes or high 
resolution monitors find the font size too small (bug 18454)

Navigation bar needs icon/text/both option (bug 22056). This is a highly wanted 
feature (15 votes, 10 or more dupes, constant complaints in newsgroups as new 
people discover a place to vent) and the bug has a contributed patch

a lot of people miss the folder drop down when reading mailnews with the folder 
pane collapsed. For people who read mail that way (often people with lower-res 
screens) passions are high. Will find bug later

Folder dropdown is bug 21344. However patch is for Mozilla 0.8.
Updated patch is blocked because of bug 73953.

People would like to see better error recovery of corrupt files, especially in 
mailnews. In 4.x it was a standard FAQ to manually delete the .snm files for 
lots of corruption. (one example is bug 50155, search bugzilla for "corrupt" 
for others). This now applies to all the .rdf files we use, too: 
localstore.rdf, user-<chrome>.rdf, search.rdf, etc. At various times I've seen 
people told to delete each of those to fix seriously broken profiles.

For the mail files, at least, perhaps something like "compacting" the folder 
should automatically rebuild the index just in case of corruption. That'd give 
users something to frob when they run into problems.

Ability to easily find, install, and get going when a page wants to use a 
plugin the user doesn't already have. I can't find a bugscape bug on it, but I 
believe [e-mail] is working on something along these lines.

Improve bookmark management (with 315 open bugs I don't even know where to 
start linking). Drag and drop, dragging should save page title and not URL as 
the title, lots of polish.

Newsgroup list isn't showing the unread count (bug 59681). Some folks want the 
total column back as an option, too (bug 54171).

Want ability to re-order columns, especially in mailnews (bug 9656)

There is an outcry for the ability to re-order newsgroups in the folder pane 
(futured bug 18343)

The search feature in the newsgroup subscribe dialog is a real-world 
requirement where people don't know their newsgroup names ahead of time (bug 
39395)

Opening subscribe dialog on real-world NNTP servers (e.g. from an ISP, or 
news.mcom.com) with thousands of groups can take a minute or more with zero 
feedback (bug 73501)
