All entries for start.mozilla, start2.mozilla, and start3.mozilla that currently point to Google need to be updated to point to the new Mozilla-hosted Firefox Start Page.

Note: only entires that currently point to Google servers should be updated.

See bug 740573 for information about the production environment.

We are aiming to have this happen *tomorrow* 4/24 at 9am PDT, but this time is contingent upon the Firefox 12 release. Please check in #ff36eol or wait for confirmation in this bug to proceed.

Thanks!
The first thing to do is to change start.mozilla.org to point to us... it currently is a CNAME to google. It should become an CNAME record pointing at startpage.3crowd.mozilla.net. I've set this all up already... 3crowd will send traffic to SCL3, PHX1, and AMS1... all 3 Zeus clusters will cache for a full day, and PHX1/AMS1 will proxy back to SCL3 when needed.

These records are all in dnsconfig/external/mozilla.com-start. Note that presently many locales are listed individually, while there is also a wildcard (*.start.mozilla.com). Since the wildcard points to www.google.com, the individual records that also point to www.google.com are technically unnecessary and can be removed.

These should all be changed to be a CNAME to start.mozilla.org.

There are several records that should *not* be touched. They are:

anything going to Yahoo
ru.start3 IN CNAME firefox.yandex.ru. ; bug 479245
zh-cn.start3 IN CNAME china-start.mozilla.net.
anything like *.google.mozilla.com ... note "google" and not "start"... different!

None of these should be changed, on pain of death.

I plan to be around to do this myself... if I'm not and anything here is confusing, please page me or ask someone on the CC list. :)

The Firefox 12 release is complete. Please proceed with these changes.
This is completed. We ran into a few snags, but at this point everything seems to be operating properly.
