Steps to reproduce:

The favicon of a website isn't showed anymore because of security reasons. A site could use a favicon to draw a lock which implies a ssl connection.

In my opinion removing the favicon is the wrong way. The real ssl symbol could be moved to the right of the address bar and the background color could be changed.

This way we can ceep the favicon in the address bar without losing security.

Having just updated to Firefox 14 beta 6, I second the motion. At the very least, the favicon should be made to appear in the address bar as an about:config option. Removing it outright was--and I say this with extreme euphemism--hasty and ill-considered. I honestly can't believe no one could think of a better way to improve the visibility of the SSL status.

I know the favicon still appears in tabs. But if, like me, you hide tabs by default, you won't see the favicon at all.

Only idiots will use idiot-proof software. FF is turning rapidly into such a thing.

Oh, well, one can install an addon for bringing back the favicon. Yes, and one can also install an addon to bring the status bar back. And one might also install this and that. Don't forget to delay/suppress your (security? hello?) updates because even popular extensions lack support for your four new major versions every week. Remember to take your css adjustments and other settings to all your FF installations, as a new one is barely usable. Whoops, FF is now fat and sluggish and takes half a GB of RAM with just a few tabs opened, even excluding flash content. Let's start all over and design something quick, sleek, efficient!

Man, I've been using Mozilla Suite since 0.8x, and Firefox gets worse every upgrade since 4.x. Every time somebody knows best what the user really wants. Wobbly scrolling. Tabs on top. History deletion after a "performance-based" amount of time. Blurry fonts with color seams. Default download dir without confirmation. One close button per tab. Greyed-out parts of the URL. Warnings about about:config, which is never listed as previously visited (all other about: pages, too...). 
What's next? "Are you sure?"-Pop-Ups when following a link to a different website? Or when visiting sites different to your local TLD? Forcing a vertical URL bar to save precious space at our **** widescreen displays? Maybe disabling any types of animations, as there are for sure users with epilepsy?

please use discussion groups like mozilla.dev.apps.firefox or mozilla.dev.usability to discuss about changes, bug trackers are not good for that.

Why are you closing this ticket? If the others want they can discuss it but this is initially just a feature request.

Because the current behavior is the wanted behavior, and there is no plan to fix this bug. Please understand this is a bug tracker used to track work to do, not a place for discussions or advocacy on features, that's why the newsgroups exist and should be used for that.

Too bad. After this change was released I have read on a newspage dozens of people wondering about introducing a "bad change". They were meaning that such things will just melt the number of users. I don't know if they were right.

But there are 2 problems:

1. If feature requests are not wanted the field should be removed for normal users.
2. It is difficult especially for new users to validate if you are a moderative person or not (they could think that maybe other users can do some ticket changes too. A clickable profile on the names would be easier because they could show your membership).

this is not exactly a feature request, is basically a request to undo a decision.  This is thus feedback about a change, that is better handled elsewhere.

This is true, unfortunately there is no easy fix, but I'm pretty sure there has already been this discussion in the past. Mozilla is a meritocracy, but it's often hard to figure who is actively contributing and who is not.  Noted.
