Details

With low resolution tiles we can cache significantly more of the page at a fraction of the memory cost. There's also a reduction in drawing time to be had but that depends on the page and the zoom level (snapping to x1 is often fast, zoom out past x1 doesn't provide much benefit on large sites).
This has been implemented else where. I don't know where the bug is.
