Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
Build ID: 2012042100

Steps to reproduce:

On a dual-boot box:
1. Install TB on Windows 7,
2. mount NTFS drive from Linux, with proper permissions mapped between Windows and Linux users,
3. Install TB on Linux
4. Run "thinderbird -ProfileManager", create new profile, navigate to the profile on ntfs drive, for example: /win7/Users/MYSELF/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/####.default. Make the new profile the default one.
5. Configured TB to store local copies of messages.

Actual results:

The setup described above worked for me since TB versions 7 in Windows 7 and 3 in Linux. Indepenently on in which system I checked my email, I could open local copies on both systems. It worked with POP3 and IMAP accounts equally well, up to TB 11.0.
Since I installed TB 12.0 (on both OS'es) I have connection problems on Linux (another bug report) an I can only download email from Windows.
But the messages which I download in Windows are not visible with Linux version of Thunderbird.

Expected results:

I expect that if a message is stored in the profile, It should appear independent on the OS. This is a regression as it worked for a long time, even if versions of TB differed between OS'es.

See bug 252099 and bug 58647.
Dear Hashem,
The bugs you refer to are rather old. Problems described there could be due to filesystem problems, I do not recall since when NTFS is fully supported in Linux and TB profiles on FAT partitions probably differed due to fs constraints.
As I stated, using NFTS-3G mounts to full extent (utf-8 long filenames, user permission mapping between OS-ses) I had no problems with this setup so far.

However it might be also the case that the messages were in fact downloaded twice (in every OS separately) and I didn't notify. As I always store server-side copies, I did see all messages in both OS-es. How can I check, which way it really works?
YOu can log using https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging to see what's going on. Looking into Tools -> Error console is also a very good way to see things.
