We are working on launching the Mozilla onboarding tool. (John & Tara - this is the tool as we discussed in previous meetings) It will be first launched for paid staff and then we'll create additional infrastructure to onboard volunteers through the same portal.

We are using a mana page to collect all data + copy for the onboarding project. Attached is the link to the mana that has the copy we would like to have edited.

https://mana.mozilla.org/wiki/display/PEOPLEWIKI/Portal+Content+Home

As a whole we are looking to create a consistent tone + look and feel for the onboarding portal. Should feel geek chic, standard playful Mozilla, and should apply to both paid staff and volunteer. (when thinking about language and audience)

For further direction and help navigating the wiki, we've broken the site into 7 components. (reflected on the mana page content outline as well)

Welcome Page
Traveling on your first day
Get Ready Page
-- + 3 subpages (Community, Culture, Get involved)
Get Set Page
-- + 3 subpages (Governance, Mozillafy Me, Pack your Toolbox)
Go! Page
-- + 3 subpages (Getting started, Getting Familiar, The Essentials)
Learn
Grow
Master
Congrats Mozillian

We are looking to create a consistent look + feel and give it some character via illustrations. Pages will all have some copy for context and then will ultimately link out to the information we are sharing (governance, history etc.) that lives on our external wiki.

I've also done a mock up of what the flow will be, and what we envision the pages to look like. This is just a rough sketch to start creative juices flowing.

Sketches: https://mana.mozilla.org/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=23953619

There are a few asks from us for this and for sanity sake, wanted to list them out along with target dates for completion:

1 - Create the style and tone guidelines for the site. We need to pass our preferences for this over to Silk Road (third party vendor running the portal) so they can start to theme it accordingly. Target date for guidelines: 6/11

2 - Create site assets - graphics for content. Target Completion date: 6/29

We are also looping in Webdev -- unsure if this is needed as an fyi here, but in the spirit of clarity...

3 - I have copied Mike Alexis on this bug as it sounds like we need to loop them in separately for a site mock-up. (wireframes) Target date for site mockup: 6/18

John & Tara -- hopefully this all makes sense after our last meetings. We've tried to put all content + design asks into one location as clear and concise as we could. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks Amie. We've lined up an *awessome* freelancer named Matt Ternoway to work on this. He's done a number of projects for us before, and is well-integrated with our creative team, so the results will be seamless as far as consistency, quality, etc.

I'm sure Matt will have some questions, and the best way to move forward is probably to have him engage directly with you guys to get going. He'll be posting in here shortly...

Hi everyone! Thanks for the intro John, good to be on board. I am available to start working on the project on Monday (June 11). John gave me a quick run-down but I look forward to hearing more about what this project entails.

Cheers,

Matt
Thanks Matt. I think a good next step would be for you & Stephanie to connect early next week on the phone to make sure you can ask any questions you might have and generally get her overview on what's needed. Can you get that part going?

My hope is that you (Matt) can work directly with Stephanie & Amie on meeting their needs, and then also sync up with me/Tara/Sean on general design styles. In other words, I think things will proceed more efficiently if Tara and I aren't acting as middlemen between you and the team here, but also want to make sure you're working with us to be fully plugged into our current styles (which I think you are, but it never hurts to stay closely in touch on that stuff).

This is a really handy link that outlines our basic web styles, so please pass this along to Silk Road:
http://www.mozilla.org/b/en-US/sandstone/

Ideally I'd like the site they build to match that style as closely as possible. It can be interpreted in a number of different ways, but I thought that was Matt's job to theme it, not theirs? For now I'd just like to make sure that we have full flexibility to do what we want. For example, can we implement our backgrounds, fonts, layouts, etc, or are we constrained by their templates in any way?

Yep, Matt is on board for this. Timing sounds good to me.

Thanks!
Thanks John, yes, SilkRoad's message to us was "give us comps" and we will create the site template for you. I am sending Matt a message now to see if we can sync up on Tuesday. (Matt let me know if there is a better email address for you). Thanks - great to have you on board Matt! - Steph.
Stephanie & Matt, have you guys had a chance to touch base yet? Just checking in.
Hi John,

Stephanie and I had a good chat yesterday to get going on my end of things.

Not sure if Sean has talked to you yet about me possibly going into the Toronto office on Thursday to get briefed a bit more on some of the new design templates - He thought it would be good for me to familiarize myself more with the new look and feel to mirror that within this site design.

Cheers,
Matt
That sounds like a great plan to me, thanks Matt.
Hi John - we did meet yesterday and I think Matt has everything he needs. Thanks. Steph.
