The AVG Safe Search Toolbar extension bypasses the third party install opt-in screen, as demonstrated in this video:

The analysis in bug 773514 comment #3 makes it clear that the add-on is doing this intentionally, which is considered a serious problem.

We're softblocking the AVG Toolbar (id: avg@toolbar) from version 11.0 to 11.1.0.12 (pending reply from AVG regarding version numbers) for all versions of Firefox.

Softblocking means that users can easily enable the toolbar again if they wish to. They just need to go to the Add-ons Manager by typing "about:addons" (no quotes) in the URL bar, find the AVG Safe Search Toolbar in the Extensions pane and click on the Enable button.

Users who would like to reset their Firefox settings after disabling the AVG Toolbar can visit this support page for more information: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-your-home-page-or-search
This bug is still open, did this block happen? The only one I see listed on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/ for AVG is one for 8.5 and older:

This block never happened. We started a discussion with AVG about this and I believe they are no longer bypassing the opt-in screen. If there is a problem with current versions of the AVG Toolbar, please file a new bug.
