Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0
Build ID: 20121010144125

Steps to reproduce:

I tried to setup up a new email account and entered the correct settings (I use the identical settings in another Thunderbird installation, and they still work after i used a workaround (circumventing the account creation dialogs) to get Thunderbird to use these settings).

Actual results:

The connection test failed, and the "done" button stayed disabled

Expected results:

Either the connection test should succeed or it should be possible to continue even if the connection test fails (e.g. add a checkbox "ignore automatic connection test" or "continue anyway")
Version: 17 → 16
FYI The email service which caused the connection test to fail is a email service of a university, thus it is not possible to create new accounts for testing.
We don't allow creation of accounts that are not working. That's intentional.

Then please give details about the account: email address (replace part before @ with "dummy@"), server hostnames and other server settings. No concrete email address or password necessary, but the concrete domain and server is.

Also, please start Thunderbird from the OS console and paste the output (stderr).

If you configure all the options manually the Done button gets enabled and you can close the wizard. Or you can use the Manual config button.

So we do not understand what is not working for you. Please tell us exactly what you are entering into the various fields in the dialog.
I just tested this issue again, and currently i can not reproduce it anymore.

I think my last test was with version 15, so it appears the issue does not exist with version 16 anymore.

@aceman: In version 15 it the done button did not get enabled for me. My bad, i thought i already had version 16 when i wrote this bug report.

Nothing changed in TB 15->16, so probably it was indeed a network/server error.

Actually, it may well have been bug 755988, but I am not sure that fix shipped in TB 16.
