It seems that persisting screenX and screenY of the prefs dialog no longer works, 
which means that it comes up top/left on my screen every time. This is super-
annoying.

vrfy fixed on mac and winnt using 2001.05.29.0x comm bits. n/a on linux, as
that's controlled by the wm.
