Now that bedrock email signup forms can accommodate country and language fields correctly (Bug 799283) - the email signup form is back on the whatsnew page!

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/whatsnew/

What's now missing is some new strings that need to be localized for the l10n pages (that are currently live).

For example:
https://www.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/whatsnew/

is missing some l10n strings and is showing parts of the signup form in English (see attached screenshot).

Is it possible to have these localized in time for the Nov 20th launch?

I believe Chelsea may have included the strings in the l10n docs for the whatsnew page for this release as part of the SocialAPI localization strings.

Thanks!
Hey Jess,

I didn't include "Get Firefox News" in those strings to be localized as I thought we were going to suppress the signup form non-EN-US locales. It's possible that we won't be showing what's new right away with the FF 17, so if that's the case, then maybe we can make a secondary l10n push?
ah - good to know. Thanks for the info, Chelsea.

Pascal, right now the form shows for all locales and whatever strings are not localized, are shown in English. Do you think we can get the l10n teams to localize the strings before Tuesday (20th) launch? Or can you - or do I need to get a webdev person - to suppress the form from any non EN locales?

Thanks!
In the end, Firefox 7 will be a silent release, no whatnew page displayed. We keep on working on that page but I don't add new strings for that page before Fx17 is released so as not to send the message to localizers that we have late strings needed for the release in 4 days from now. I talked with Craig about the form yesterday, we will also need to activate that form only for locales we have the newsletter for, since that is designed on the PHP side, we don't know yet if we are going to maintain a short list on the python side.
Hey Pascal! Thanks for your reply - please see inline.

Ah! I keep forgetting this.

That makes complete sense.

As long as the country and language form fields are present on the email signup form (and they should be on both the old and bedrock sites now), I think it's okay to show to any/all locales and languages. That way, even if we don't provide the newsletter (at this time) in Italian, if someone from the it build views the form, if they are interested in the newsletter, they can choose from the available languages which language they would like to receive it in. Does that sound okay?
Assuming this was fixed at some point.
