Steps to reproduce:

Tried to open a file with xfa host scripting in firefox. Previously, it would open in adobe reader as a supported plugin for the pdf file.

Support for Pdf files specification (1.7 for example) is not checked by pdfjs (should redirect to correct installed plugin instead if available, not used blindly as default)


Actual results:

Clicking on a pdf file with specification > 1.6 incorrectly uses pdfjs which does not support it.


Expected results:

It should have prompted me to use Adobe Reader plugin instead if available, or directly redirected to the right plugin.

Just to clarify, the XFA specification is not part of the PDF specification. It shall not be assumed that PDF file with version 1.6 or 1.7 have XFA logic in it.

Thanks for the clarification, I hope this report will be usefull.

From what I understand, it is possible to switch in the firefox options, to use adobe plugin instead of the firefox preview.

So this setting, and the way the plugin system is implemented, tells me that it's maybe not so simple to redirect to a plugin, let alone, telling if the plugin is installed or not.

An elegant solution could be, to add a new file type, for pdfs where scripting is used, and not allow selecting firefox preview (pdfjs) as an option here.

Yet, I have no clue if that's possible.

The PDF is no longer accessible, but we landed support for XFA in bug 1715638 so I'm going to call this fixed.
