User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.6) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.6
Build ID: 20120825145007

Steps to reproduce:

I pressed Ctrl-K to go to the search textbox and entered a message-id of a message I've got in one of my folders.

Actual results:

Thunderbird was unable to find the message.

Expected results:

The message with the message-id I entered should be found.
This looks like a RFE. I don't think we're searching all headers in Global Search.

I've always wondered if TB has any way of searching those headers which we don't show by default (unless in all-headers view, or source).
Not being able to search those looks like a usability gap for advanced users.
So I'm somewhat in favour of this RFE, but it's only a first step towards making *all* hidden headers searchable. I think we discussed something similar when we still had the old quicksearch with wrong labels for "entire message" etc.

Lukasz, can you provide a scenario why you find searching for message-id helpful?
I work in a team. We exchange a lot of e-mails but most of them have one recipient, who is supposed to take an action upon receiving a message, the rest is on cc. However, the mails contain a lot of useful information and from time to time we point each other to a specific message. At the moment we use to use sender+date+subject+recipient+... as a key. Since we use few different IMs passing message-ids (or a "msgid link", that could work with a resolution of Bug #544805) could improve this work-flow significantly.
Component: Untriaged → Search
In version 60 of Thunderbird, the plugin Thunderlink stopped working and there seems to be no activity to adapt it.
So searching for a message-id is the only way to reference a specific email in a different programm (not taking etc).
The plug-in expression search allows to search for the message-id in the INBOX (in my case IMAP), however it does not work in local folders and the general Thundrbird search.
Therefore it would be great if headers could be included in the general search (perhaps with an option), to be able to search for specific items in the headers such as the message-id.

See also the discussion in bug 544805 (possible duplicate).
