(In reply to Fernando R. Sela [:frsela] from comment #2) > Hi again Marce, > > I just tested with the last release of gaia and is working well, can you > confirm it continue failing in your device? I think it is related to the title of the section, not the menu item that is ok (now say Movistar), but I am not sure. Rafa, can you clarify?

"Operator Services" does make much more sense that "SIM Toolkit" indeed. I'm all for changing it.

What's this issue for? From the patch proposed by :frsela, I think this is simple a string change, but not related to bug 818056, isn't it? I will remove the blocks tag first and rename the title. Further, we need to confirm the string change with UX. :sonmarce, if you originally were talking about bug 818056, then this issue will be a dup, please check updated status there.

Summary: The settings option displays SIM Toolkit instead of Operator Service → 'SIM Toolkit' should be renamed as 'Operator Service'

:evelyn, it is just a string change, no relationship to bug 818056 at all.

Triage: Wouldn't block the release on this but would take a patch.

Yep, and we still wouldn't block the release on changing the name or fixing this patch if it got backed out for any reason :)

If its not a blocker, its worth noting that we are past the string freeze. We really need to get serious on locking down strings if we want to get translations ready. Does this setting really relate controlling something on the SIM card, or something on the operator side? I'd say both terms might seem just as foreign to most users so this patch doesn't offer a significant value improvement.

Well, "SIM Toolkit" is a technical name, so probably it is not understandable by a normal user. It gives access to applications in the SIM provided by the Operator, to offer some services to the user. So, "Operator Services" is a better name, as it is giving user a clear description about what is being offered.

(In reply to Marcelino Veiga Tuimil [:sonmarce] from comment #15) > Well, "SIM Toolkit" is a technical name, so probably it is not > understandable by a normal user. Technical term, yes. Both terms probably are. Harder to understand because it contains an acronim, maybe. SIM as a common term, yes too; probably much more common than "Operator Services". Google says 54 million pages mention "SIM Card" and 743,000 on "Operator Services." If I use google as a way to learn about these technical terms and capabilities I'm much more likely to find my way to a better understanding using the more common term "SIM Toolkit" than the more ambiguous "Operator Services." Also, using wikipedia to try to figure out what an "operator service" might be also leads to generally more confusion, Where a wikipedia search on SIM or related term gets me quicker to a better understanding. Another way to test this would be to walk into a cellphone reseller and test the two terms. I'm guessing the sales/support person might have a hard time undersanding what i wanted if I said I need to change the seetings on on my "operator services" but would probably be quite helpful if I said I needed to change the settings on my SIM Card. > It gives access to applications in the SIM > provided by the Operator, to offer some services to the user. So, "Operator > Services" is a better name, as it is giving user a clear description about > what is being offered. These definitions differ from yours http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-sim-card.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_identity_module It says the SIM card has the ability to save *my* settings and identity, not the operators... Who's seetings are these?

Just to clarify, we are not talking about "SIM Card", we are referring to "SIM Toolkit": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_Application_Toolkit

In my opinion, we should keep the name that will be more familiar to operators, not to users. These are settings that the user will not likely use outside of heavy guidance anyway. So, if there is an official name for this kind of service, such as "SIM Toolkit", it might actually be less confusing to the main user (the service provider) than trying to make a new name for it. If there is no standard name for this service, I think it makes such a small difference whether to call it "SIM Toolkit" or "Operator Services".

(In reply to Larissa Co from comment #20) > Unless anyone can convince me otherwise, I'm going to nom as WONTFX. The name "Operator Services" was decided by :rafaelrebolleda after talking to :frsela. As I said, it is not a normal settings entry, it is to provide some operator services to the user, like news, traffic, sports, ... So it should be something understandable by the user.

Honestly, I think we can go back and forth forever on the name. I still don't think it's a blocker for v1. I'm fine if you want to change it in future releases.
