What:
We'd like to have a special letter design printed for the film-school mailings.

Idea/Thoughts:
The design should be aligned with the envelope design, if applicable. The letter can be fully set and written beforehand and printed at a print-shop completely.

Technical Things:
- Please keep in mind that we'll need two formats. For international usage Din A4-compatible envelopes and for the U.S., U.S. letter-compatible ones.

Copy:
Letter copy needed: Be sure to highlight Flicks 2012 successes, Flicks 2013, deadlines for both entry and close dates, mulitple chances to win, celebrity judges and great prizes. Include a CTA (Post at school, include in emails, on social networks) and a URL.

See creative brief & due dates in main bug "[Flicks] Assets for Film-School Mailings: Brief" https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=822301

Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Whiteboard: Need to determine crative due date and find Designer (please via main bug) → tbd
Had a quick question now that I am starting the designs of both the envelope and letter...I am wondering whether or not the letter will be a 3-fold or a 2-fold. The fold will depend on the type of envelope that is used. Just want to confirm which is the preferred choice for this.

I've attached an example of various paper and envelope sizes > http://cl.ly/image/2o35383J053h

Thanks!
Matt

Hello!

We’re from Mozilla, a proudly non-profit organization dedicated to keeping the power of the Web in people’s hands. We’re also the makers of the Web browser Firefox, as well as the mobile operating system Firefox OS.

We believe that mobile connects people. It’s a force for progress and change, both individually and collectively. That’s why we’d love your help in asking your students to enter Firefox Flicks, a global video contest about the power of mobile, and inspire others to get mobilized.

Enclosed you’ll find posters, postcards and stickers: everything you need to spread the word. Put them up and distribute them where you think they’ll do the most good.

The contest opens on February 13 and runs until the end of July. The films submitted will be seen a panel of celebrity judges and there are lots of great prizes, including multiple chances to win throughout the competition. Your students can find all the info, including the creative brief, at firefoxflicks.org.

Please share this info as far and as wide as you can — including in emails and on your social networks — and help us bring the small screen to the big screen.

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,

The Firefox Flicks Team
Example of a simple letterhead layout. I was thinking the envelope would make use of the darker colours, such as the grey and blue which is consistent with some of the other creative. The idea being there would be a nice contrast in colour between the envelope and the letter itself.
looks good to me.

can we get a logo on the letter?

if we are going to put a poster in the envelope as well what envelope size do you recommend? I'd envision the poster likely folding into four to go into the envelope. does that make sense?

tobi, any additional thoughts on the letter/envelope?
About the envelope size. Not sure about the U.S. formats, but my understanding is to have them in a size that the letter itself doesn't need to be folded. That'd be the "Din C4" standard after your image.

(The posters, Din A2, will then be folded twice to fit the envelopes.)
Hi Kristin, perhaps I can work the logo into where the wordmark sits in the bottom right corner. I decided not to work it in on a large scale similar to how I have often cropped it on other pieces...I felt it would look a bit heavy on the white space.

Just to confirm it's the smaller poster size which is the A4 which would be included in the envelope? A4 being the same size as the letterhead (210x297mm). Ideally both would need to be a 3-fold to fit the envelope size DL (110x220mm)...otherwise we could go with a large envelope C5 (162x229mm)in which we would have more room for various folds as well as stickers, etc.
Hey Matt, what if you tried screening it way back and putting it behind the text? Or maybe just half of it peeking up from the bottom? Something like that.
Here is a second version of the letterhead making use of the Flicks logo.
Looks great to me!

New copy, including feedback that came in separately by email (did we want to add a link to the tumblr as well?):

Good catch. The URL is:

Or do you think we're getting into link overkill?

It certainly is a lot of links, but if we're including the others, why not this one? I think it's either just the main URL or all of them.
I guess let's see how it looks?

If

end up looking bad we can just fall back to the firefoxflicks.org

Hi Matej, there is one last edit we'd like you to make. Remember the most recent feedback we got from Cbeard? E.g. the "small screen / big screen" part should probably replaced with the new "you're the director" line. Hope you get what I mean. Thanks!
Thanks Tobi. Good catch. I moved some messaging around and here's the final version:

Awesome. I think it's good to go.
Whoops. Here comes another change to the letter-copy.

"I'd add a sentence at the end that says to contact someone please email us at: firefoxflicks@mozilla.org"

With this last edit it'll be approved by Kristin again.
Can we make that:

"For more information please e-mail us at firefoxflicks@mozilla.org."

And place it between the last paragraph and "Thanks for your help!"

Thanks!
C
Unless Matej vetos on that this is good to go then.

Matt, including the update in comment 22, the copy is ready! Thanks!
OK, here's the updated copy. Please note I also changed "e-mail" to "email" in the line that was added in comment 22. Hopefully we can call this final now.

Matt - Ah well. Seems we'll need another version because of the "e-mail" change to "email". Sorry about that.

I recommend you hold back a little on re-sending this to the group to see more feedback in general and then send-out another big file maybe by tomorrow, when everyones' happy.
Sure that is no problem for me. I will hold off until final confirmation.

Just to be clear, that wasn't the only change. The second paragraph is revised as well. Might be best to re-flow the entire deck just in case. Thanks!
Matej and Matt - Kristin gave me final approval for this copy, so any visual treatments can be done and then we can call this one final :)

Thanks!
Lizz

Heh, sorry Matt, one really tiny change. You have "at firefoxflicks.org" all in red, but it should only be the URL. Can you switch the "at" back to black? Thanks so much.
