Research group needs to order a t-shirt for all contributors to the Rust project.

-- suggestion for color was black with rust-colored logo
-- Here are 2 suggestions for the text on the front or back

I really like the colors on this! Will let the Rust team weigh in on the text on the back, but fwiw I prefer the one from comment #7.

Looking great. My thoughts:

- I prefer the shorter text ("safe. concurrent. practical"), rather than the haiku.

- I'd kind of like to see, for comparison, a version without the periods in it, if that's not too much work.

- I think the text should be all lowercase.

- We should definitely have the Rust URL at the bottom (www.rust-lang.org), with the "www." but without the "http://"

- Is the color a little too orangey? Could it be just a bit redder, to be a little more rusty? Dunno if that's just my monitor, or if there's a limit to the available colors.

Thank you for your 2 designs.  They look great.
Same question as Dave about the color orange.  I think everyone wanted a rustic look, not sure if that's possible.  I think others prefer the shorter version as well. I'll wait for the version Dave asked for. Thanks again.

Hey guys--
Just to clarify:
The RUST logo originally was in 4 color, its kind of a rust gradient. I read the original request as "rust color on black", so I made the logo one color. If you would like the logo to be the gradient rust/dark blue on black it will be printed in 4 colors and  not just one (which is fine, I just didnt know that you wanted that).
So do you want the original logo (above so you can see it in 4 color), or, do you want the logo in just one solid color, but to make that solid color a little less orange and a little more red?

Hey guys--
In response for the change to lowercase, I would say that it fits the new Firefox and Mozilla font style best to use Upper lower case for the text, as that is the current style. There is no where in the current branding that employs all lower case, so I think putting the type in OpenSans and using Upperlower is best for sticking to current look and feel. I did omit the periods on this version, and added the new URL at the bottom.

A few more thoughts. Sorry to be difficult, but it still just kind of falls flat.

- Go ahead and kill the haiku version; it doesn't work. We'll stick with safe/concurrent/practical.

- If we're going with the capitalized words it looks betters with the periods. (Thanks for providing the comparison.)

- I would prefer a darker red, like a maroon. This still doesn't look rusty to me.

- Would it be possible to distress the logo at all? To make it look a little retro? As an example, I love this old-school Atari t-shirt:

This would go great with Rust's theme of drawing on old-school, retro technology and making them fresh again, as well as playing on the "Rust" theme.

- Would a dark grey / charcoal background, like the Atari tee, be possible? That adds to that distressed look. Alternatively, a white logo and text (again like the Atari shirt) would look good on a charcoal background.

Is this close to the color you had in mind Dave?

The grey color can probably be a little darker, but not too much darker.  I tried it and there isn't enough contrast.

Hey guys--I'll try a more blue red, but  the original version of the logo that was created for this program and what I  was given to work with (see attached 4 color version) was somewhat distressed already. If you want the logo to be altered to the degree that you are asking for I would have you discuss that and make that change with the person who designed the original logo--that is out of my scope and I woundnt want to make that much of a change to the logo without permission. Once the logo has been altered by the designer I'm happy to finish the tee layout!

I'll talk with Sean Martell -- he's the designer of the logo (and also CC'ed).

I hadn't noticed it was orange (I remembered it as red) but I see you're right. The thing is, it gives the effect of looking like rust. I'm not sure if Sean intentionally was tying in with the Firefox colors, but we don't want to tie Rust to Firefox too closely. I'm happy with monochrome, but I still want it to be a color that looks like Rust. I don't want it to look too explicitly Mozilla / Firefox branded. We're trying to build Rust an identity to stand on its own. But we can talk with the branding folks.

Hey guys. As one of the branding folks, my main thought is that we are *way* overcomplicating this project. The ask to Rhonda was to put the Rust logo on a t-shirt with a cool slogan on the back...I totally understand the need & want to come up with something you're really happy with, but we're putting her through way too many iterations than should be necessary as defined by the original request.

My understanding is that the logo was already approved, and I assume that includes the color as well. If you're now unhappy with the color, that's something that can be addressed, but not immediately and not as part of this project.

My recommendation is to stick with the original color (generally speaking, altering the color of your logo isn't a great idea), go back to one of the early revs and get this printed. It's not my project, but my feeling is that we're asking Rhonda to jump through too many hoops for something that should have been defined more clearly up front.

How does that sound?
