Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0
Build ID: 20121128204232

Steps to reproduce:

I opened the program before connecting the modem.

Actual results:

The master password did not appear and the messages could be accessed.

Expected results:

When the connection is off, the Master Password isn't work.
Severity: normal → critical
When the modem is off, the connection to a mail server can not be established.
Without connection, there is no mail server asking for a password and hence no masterpassword is requested from the user to access the stored passwords.

Do you think that the masterpasswords protects your stored emails on your local system ?

Yes, Matthias. I thought. Otherwise, why to exist a master password?
Your stored passwords that are needed to access your email server are encrypted with the masterpassword. It only secures your passwords and not Thunderbird itself

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318697#c60 explains this.
