82869 - Segmentation fault in installer

I'm running the net installer (mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-0.9-installer.tar.gz)
on my linux box which is accessing the internet through our home network. 
Whenever the connection is interrupted on the other machine, the installer
crashes with:

./mozilla-installer: line 48:  3562 Segmentation fault     (core dumped)
./mozilla-installer-bin --sync

And from there there is no (obvious?) way to resume the download, even though I
had gotten up to six of the eight packages at that point.  I have to start again
from scratch, which is a real pain over a modem.

(I apoligize if my explanation is inadequate.  I just installed linux two days
ago :)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect to internet (dialup) on Windows box
1. Download mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-0.9-installer.tar.gz through the network
on linux box 
2. unzip into empty mozilla folder
3. switch to mozilla-installer/ folder
4. run ./mozilla-installer
5. follow instructions until packages start downloading
6. interrupt connection to windows box (incoming call probably)

Actual Results:  This is where the program crashes, I think. I'm never around
when it happens, but whenever I come back to check the progress, I get the error
I mentioned above and I walk over to the Windows box and the connection has been
interrupted.

Expected Results:  It should have caught the interrupted download more
gracefully and provided me a way to resume the download.  The ximian gnome
installer does this beautifully.  I downloaded the 135 meg install over a 56k
modem with many many interruptions.

The windows box is running Comsocks 3.0 to do the connection sharing.

I figured it out:

I had to be logged in as root.  The installer should ask for the superuser
password when it starts like all other applications that need superuser access.

IIRC, This is listed in the Release notes, that Mozilla requires root access for
an install.

As such, marking INVALID.

With all due respect,

It's pretty standard for programs to ask for the root pwd if they need it. 
Adding this feature would decrease hair pulling for newbies.  If usability isn't
a priority, tho, invalid it shall remain.

There's already a bug about that actually: bug 58499.

Mozilla doesn't require root access, it only requires it if it is installed into
the default location (or another location that requires root access).

The bug I've listed above is about that. Feel free to add you comments there. :)
