Reopening as this causes Bugzilla::Search to crash and I need to get the log entry to see what the error is. This does not happen for me locally. But I want people to be able to continue testing so I will commit this when someone is around.

Sigh. The error there was already present in the web UI when buglist.cgi was crashing. I was hoping there might be more in the error_log. Not quite sure why this is failing yet as it works on my local instance.
