Firefox OS is lacking a solid guide to localization. This needs to be created and incorporated into localization's current information architecture.

Stas, it appears that I can't flag a URL for review. I've written the doc in the URL provided in the description according to content within https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:B2G/Localizers , http://informationisart.com/11/ , and http://www.informationisart.com/13/ . I do feel it is lacking in a couple of areas (e.g., mobile device l10n testing, Gaia style guide, guidelines on what not to translate, maybe some screenshots, etc.), but I'll ultimately leave that for you to decide. I think the language is clean, direct, and as brief as possible. In parts it directs people to skip steps according to their circumstances, but is ultimately addressed to people interested in localizing Firefox OS with a limited technical background. Please take some time to read it over and provide me with feedback. My goal is to have this closed and finalized by Friday at the latest.

Maybe this will work? It's the URL to the doc page I wrote on localizing Firefox OS.

Some notes on the content I see here https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developing_Gaia/Localizing_Firefox_OS GNU Make: I'm pretty sure you don't need the entire XCode on Mac, I only have installed the command line tools. Setting up a local repo. 1) It assumes that the mercurial repo already exists, which is not necessarily true. You can also have a local folder, not versioned, with your strings. 2) It explains to clone the locale in "B2G/gaia/locales/zh-TW", but you never told them to clone gaia in B2G/gaia Desktop l10n testing 3.1 With those instructions, locale folder will be in the wrong path (root, not inside /locales) I confess I never used B2G Desktop for locale testing, I should try to see if these instructions still work. We should definitely mention a) Firefox OS simulator: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-os-simulator/ b) For testing on phones, these instructions: https://l10n.etherpad.mozilla.org/gaia-multilocale

Open it in a browser. This was the only way I could flag this for review.
Thanks for chiming in, flod. Canceling the review request on me; I think flod, Delphine or Axel might be better suited to review this today.
