I like the progress bar in the dock icon showing download progress. I think though that it should be styled like Launchpad's to fit in better; see screen shot.

I'll set this as a P5 because based on comment 1, it's currently not possible or doable in a sane manner. If in the future the API situation should improve, we can surely re-evaluate.
