Details

The loading spinner in fennec isn't smooth compared to the desktop spinner. I think the mobile spinner may have less frames and so it appears to have more jumps between the steps.

We could probably double the framecount without taking too large of a filesize hit.
We intentionally removed these because the higher res throbber caused a measurable increase in cpu use and longer page load times. This is wontfx unless we have a way to fix that.

Is there another loading indicator design that would inherently require less frames? Maybe three small circles that alternate being lit?
There is talk of removing the throbber completely; bug 853844.
We could look at alternate ways to "render" a throbber, or choose an entirely different visual indicator. The current throbber requires a certain FPS level to look good. Other approaches might not require a minimum FPS to look good, like a progress bar. That said, a progress bar has entirely different issues.
