Regarding the style guidelines, look what Betaworks.com gets away with: http://cl.ly/Oayi

Matjaž, I heard you had some authentication errors with the feed. I've done a lot of Twitter OAuth integration stuff. Perhaps I can help?

Peter, that's great! I'd love to chat about that with you. I'll find you on IRC tomorrow if it works for you.

We'll need this: https://github.com/ryanmcgrath/twython https://twython.readthedocs.org/en/latest/usage/starting_out.html#oauth-2-application-authentication

It turns out Embedded Timelines (https://dev.twitter.com/docs/embedded-timelines) can be styled to match the design proposed: https://bug791685.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=732929

Not sure about the loss of symmetry (or better, the amount of white space in the bottom center-left). Switch to 2+2 (2 divs per row) or 1+3/3+1 (1 being the div "Projects we localize", and the other 3 discussion-teams-twitter)?

I agree with flod, but I'm just following the design proposed in bug 791685: https://bug791685.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=732930 As pike suggested (and I agree with him), we should implement the proposed design first and then iterate for improvements.

Agreed, I missed that part :-) BTW, the idea of placing "Projects we localize" doesn't work at all, content is too small to use the entire width. 2+2 could be probably investigated a bit more.

Not really in scope for this bug, but how about: We make @mozilla_l10n post everything that's on the l10n planet, and just use that feed?

(In reply to Axel Hecht [:Pike] from comment #11) > Not really in scope for this bug, but how about: > > We make @mozilla_l10n post everything that's on the l10n planet, and just > use that feed? I've had so many conversations about symmetry with Stas that now whenever it's brought up all that sticks in my mind is that sayind from his dad. That being said, I'm not thrown by the asymmetry, but by how far down the page you have to go to find the Twitter feed. I like Axel's idea about making @mozilla_l10n post everything from l10n planet. Is there a way to automate Twitter authentication from planet to @mozilla_l10n so that when new content appears on planet, @mozilla_l10n shoots out an automated tweet with the blog post subject line and TinyURL?

The symmetry saying from his dad. :-) Yes, there are services that automate posting from the feed to Twitter: https://hootsuite.com/

Winston, are you the guy to ask about getting the updates to http://planet.mozilla.org/l10n/ cross-posted to @mozilla_l10n? Do we have tooling/services for that?

Hi Axel, My team manages the @Firefox account. CCing our social media manager. I don't think we're using any tools like the one you mention above. Michaela can clarify.

Hi folks! Thanks for looping me in. The @mozilla_l10n account is one the many Twitter accounts that isn't managed by the social media team, so I'm afraid I can't help with this specific inquiry. But, I can tell you that Twitter is cracking down on tools that allow for auto-tweeting of this nature, as they consider it spam. If you're looking to get content shared from planet.mozilla.org/l10n, you might consider adding "tweet this" buttons by pieces of compelling content. I hope that this is helpful! Michaela

(In reply to Matjaz Horvat [:mathjazz] from comment #17) > Thanks Michaela and Winston! > > So what do we do about this? I've already been in touch with mthayer about this ;-) So, I'm rethinking this and am more convinced that the planet would be a better, more appropriate feed for visitors to our website. As long as there's a mention somewhere on l10n.mozilla.org to "Follow us on Twitter" or something, I'm content.

OK, if everyone is fine with that, then let's ignore the patch, start from the current production design and add one of the official follow buttons somewhere: https://dev.twitter.com/docs/follow-button

Comment on attachment 806590 [details] [diff] [review] Patch 1 Review of attachment 806590 [details] [diff] [review]: ----------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, let's just have the follow button. Sorry for the hassle. Nit, as you're already tweaking the content there, can you fix the link "See all news" from blog.m.o to http://planet.mozilla.org/l10n/ ?

Twitter Follow Button. See all news links to Planet instead of Blog. Increased h2 bottom margin on homepage.
