The only way to dismiss the context bar is to manually unselect all items. The case that I think is more annoying is when you have an undo delete action button on the context bar. The only way to dismiss it is to select some random tile then unselect it or navigate to a page (Bug 876030).

I was looking at how windows 8 start behaves and an edge swipe from the top unselects all tiles and hides the context bar.

Maybe in the undo case we could consider dismissing by taping empty space. On the win8 start page, if you bring the context bar by swiping from the top edge with nothing selected you can dismiss it by tapping empty space.

I ran into this as well. It just sort of stick there and there's no way to get rid of it. Yuan, any ideas on alternate behaviors?

Totally agreed.
The Firefox context app bar should work in a similar way as the Windows 8 start screen. So it won't require too much additional learning.

To exit the context app bar on FX Start,
the users can:
1. Tap/Click "Clear selection" icon in the context app bar
2. Perform an edge swipe either from the top of the bottom (Then the user should be able to see navigation app bar and tab strip)
3. If the user hasn't selected any tile on FX Start, tapping/clicking on the empty space can dismiss the context app bar.

Exception for right-click: When there are tiles selected on FX Start, right-click on the empty space should not bring tab strip and app bar in. Once the tile selection are clear, right-click works as the same as edge-swipe. (Just confirmed: Windows 8 start screen does the same thing)

We now have a clear selection button on the context bar when you select multiple items and you can dismiss by showing then hiding the tabs strip - two edge swipes/right clicks. The delete case is still hard to dismiss though. I think touching empty space should deselect all items and dismiss the context bar, like windows 8.1 start page.
