Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20130610 Firefox/24.0 (Nightly/Aurora)
Build ID: 20130610031147

Steps to reproduce:

Today I tried playing a youtube video in html5 mode again.
I have hw acceleration disabled to prevent my GPU from switching between low-power mode and performance mode whenever I use the mousewheel to scroll a page.

Actual results:

The video playback was not hardware-accelerated, and in fullscreen mode my CPU couldn't keep up and had to resort to dropping 50% of the frames. It seems the abovementioned setting affects all forms of hardware acceleration.

Expected results:

I kinda hoped the video decoder would use the GPU. The Flash plugin ignores the setting. I wish there was a way to control hw acceleration of scrolling and hw acceleration of video playback separately, since I don't mind enabling it for infrequent activities that actually require it (scrolling doesn't).
