Details

Today Firefox and Thunderbird 17.0.6 updated to 17.0.7.
Both are installed by admin, I was logged in as normal user.
The updates worked fine, but the update files remained on disk
(documents & settings, userid, local settings, appdata, mozilla).
As consequence help/about tells me again and again to restart the programs to finalize the update. I removed the update directories manually to stop this.

Has this happened with previous updates? Any chance you can also try to reproduce this with a Firefox 25 Nightly build?

Just found that this was probably fixed in version 18:

When version 20 updates itself to version 22, all files in the directory Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates\0 are removed. So this was indeed fixed in later versions.
