Tested on 2013-07-26 using latest nightly for iteration #10 testing. When going through story in bug 831916 I noticed that I couldn't swipe down on the top tiles on the Top Sites so that I could pin them or delete them, but what is actually happening is that I try two swipe starting from above the tile itself, and not inside the tile.

Steps:
1. Open Firefox Metro and open a new tab
2. Swipe down on any of the top tiles (top row) on the Top Sites/Bookmarks/Recent History section.

Expected: The tiles are highlighted and a context menu bar opens at the bottom which allows me to pin/unpin/delete the tile.

Actual: Nothing happens. This gesture works consistently on the bottom tiles, because there's no space above the tiles such that you start the gesture outside of them, so it always works.

Once you realize this, you remember to swipe from inside the tile, but it's confusing.

Technically, the gesture should start inside the tile you want to select - if I try to select a tile on the bottom row like you describe most times I end up selecting the tile above. Also, FWIW the swipe can go from top-bottom or bottom-top:

"Cross-slide selection is achieved by touching an element and releasing it after a short dragging interaction"

However, I think usability not compliance is the better goal here, so I'm open to suggestions.
I'm not sure I see the bug here. Tile selection gestures are supposed to be initiated by dragging the tile itself down some so the gesture necessarily starts inside the tile.

Agreed. However, it feels very natural to swipe down on a tile a la Fruit Ninja cutting gesture, especially on the top row tiles, because there's extra space on top from which you can unintentionally start the gesture.

We believe the current tile selection gesture matches the standard for Windows Store apps. We'd prefer not to implement a different gesture in Metro, so we think this bug is WONTFIX. Asa would like to sit down with Juan to see exactly where the difficulty is and make sure we're understanding the request correctly.
