898654 - We need a way to notify users of important events on home page

So we need a really simple way to notify users that stuff is happening.  For example, we will be doing user testing - and we are also planning on running a few content challenges this summer.  We don't currently have a way to do anything like this.  A simple, thin banner above the makes would really help.

I'm going to investigate how difficult it would be to put notifications in the thumbnail grid, similar to the "Claim you Webmaker domain" feature.

this would be amazing - we could link to Webmaker's Hottest blog posts when useful https://blog.webmaker.org/webmakers-hottest-1 and other prevalent Webmaker-wide happenings that show Webmaker community/makers are alive and active...

Gavin, we may need to shoot for Aug 14 as a final deadline (so everything needs to be up and tested before then; Aug 15 is a push to promote a new campaign).

YES! The hashbattle will hopefully begin at this time. At the very least we would want to do this with the remix event for India that we have planned for August 15. Hopefully this is possible.
