Steps to reproduce:

just run firefox 23.0.1


Actual results:

Blue screen of death on windows 7 64 bit with AMD video card.


Expected results:

not crash pc.

FYI, The only version of Java I have running is 1.6.45.

Why do you think that your Windows system crashes because of Firefox?

Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems. It does not disable plugins which are add-ons.) See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode 

And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile and http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Managing%20profiles . 

If you still see this problem in the new profile, please enter the address "about:support" in the address bar and attach (using the "Add an attachment" link above) the output for your original profile (not the new profile), as the "Modified Preferences" section could be interesting.

I logged in using safe mode and waited for a crash, nothing happened. I then started it up normally and have had no issues today so far.

I have not tried a new profile yet. If I crash again I will try that next.

I am still having issues with firefox crashing my PC. I was good all last week but within a few minutes of starting firefox after rebooting my PC the PC crashed with Blue screen.

I created a new profile and the only application I had running was firefix and I got the blue screen crash again.

I have the same issue with Firefox 23.0.1 and win7 64-bit.
I used google chrome for a week to see if the blue screens still occur but no blue screens with google chrome. So Yesterday I switched back to firefox and two blues screens in two days (the last one was 5 minutes ago). I've disabled the hardware acceleration but I still have blue screens.
Very annoying issue maybe it is because of a plugin such flash or whatever but Tell us how we can help you guys to figure out what's wrong.

Good to know that I am not the only one. What version of Java are you using? For now I have to stay at Java 1.6.45.

However, Firefox crashed my system when in Firefox safe mode too.

My PC also crashes when I open up a word attachment in an Outlook email.

I have not had any contact with Firefox support since I opened this bug. No help at all. I have stopped using their product which is a shame.

I'm using java plugin 1.7.0_21b11.
My computer only crashes when Firefox is open so it because of something related to Firefox.

I guess the developpers does not have enough time to check this issue but I guess we're not the only ones with this issue.

If they don't fix I will switch to another web browser.

Crashes that end in blue screens ARE bugs.

Correct. Now I'd love to see if anybody could come up with steps to reproduce this - currently pretty hard to reproduce if developers don't have exactly the same hardware setup. :-/

I know and adree that it is pretty hard for the developpers to fix these kind of issues since the hardware, the drivers' versions and the installed extensions are different from the ones present on the deverloppers' computers.

I'm ok to help you guys and fetch information you would need but tell me exactly what information you need.

I can't tell you what steps might be done to reproduce this since it appends only a few times.
It could be nice to trace if it comes from firefox itself or from an extension such flash.

Tell me if there's something I can do to help you guys.

OS crashes / BSOD crashes are typically NOT firefox bugs afaik.

Please reopen this bug if it's reproducible in Firefox 31 or later.
