Hi Sasa and team,

This is to confirm that hr team has chosen to allow a localization agency to localize the web/video content and be only involved in review work due to current bandwidth. Here is estimated scope of work, but not limited to the following:

- review(s) and correction of web content - format will be like the attached. You can make changes directly in the table.
- review(s) of audio script
- review(s) of audio recording
- review(s) of video/audio mixing
- review(s) of web content staging
- final signoff of the website.

If there is any additional information you can provide to help the localization agency, such as glossary, style guide, and anything else, please communicate the information in the bug.

Thanks,
Peiying
Hi Grace,

The hr team has decided to let a localization agency to do the initial translation. Afterwards, the community will be involved in reviews and signoff.

Though there is no glossary to share, please refer to the following system to help ensure quality translation

1). Install localized Firefox OS Simulator: http://r2d2b2g.flod.org/.
2). Be sure to adhere to terminology. Translation of doc should match Firefox OS translation.
3). They can use Transvision (http://transvision.mozfr.org/) for checking how strings are translated in Firefox OS too. Just choose repository "gaia".

Please get the localization started. Once the files are ready to review, communicate the required action here.

Thank you,
Peiying

Hello Croatia team,

After much discussion, we are going to let the team handle all the localization tasks. If for any reason, due to technical issue or bandwidth, a particular task can't be completed, do let me know as early as possible so we can find alternative solutions. here is scope of work:

- Localize and review web content (~ 4000 words) - community
- Localize and review audio script (~ 700 words) - community
- Identify voice talent and location to do the recording (possibly remotely) - community
- Mixing of audio and videos - Spencer
- Staging web content - web vendor through marketing team
- Review of web content - community
- Review of dubbed video clips - community
- Implementation review comment of web content - web vendor through marketing team
- final review of entire site (web content and videos)
- Sign off
Assignee: gjimenez → nvisnjic.fer
Hello Niko,

Given the word count of the project, let me know roughly when you think you can complete the task. When I have confirmed schedule from marketing, I will share that with the team.

Thank you,
Peiying
The text localization is 50% complete ATM, but I've haven't heard yet
from the second localizer working on it.
It should be done by middle of next week and then we have give it a
second reading.
After that I'll give it out for reviews and signoffs.
The voice scripts were translated a week ago and we're waiting for a response from the University's audio department.
We'll try to record the stuff in collaboration with them or we'll figure out how to acquire our own gear and do the recording ourselves.

BTW, I see that the scripts are made for the 8 tutorial videos.
What about the Mozilla Mission video that lives here:
http://masterfirefoxos.mozilla.org/#m05/t05/p30

Can we get a localized rework version of this done also.
Eg. we do the audio and send it in for editing and the good people who made the video can incorporate translations of the texts in the video?
Any info on who made the video?

Cheers,
N
The link is not working, but I mean the video under "The Firefox Mission" subpage.

N
Hi Niko,

there was some updates since this bug was initially opened. The updates are relatively minor. Please see the updated docs here. The updated areas are highlighted in either Green or Orange. At the end of the web content, I almost made some notes as well, so you know the issue we identified and their current resolutions. Copy that section or the sentence into your current working docs and make sure the localized text is updated as well.

web content: https://drive.google.com/a/mozilla.com/#folders/0B7u_NzvpgGcgemdGdFVNdF9Gc1U
video content: https://drive.google.com/a/mozilla.com/#folders/0B7u_NzvpgGcgemdGdFVNdF9Gc1U

Also to confirm our discussion on the ownership of various tasks:
- localize/review web/video content - cs community
- audio recording - cs community
- audio/video mixing, video title embedding - agency A/mozilla staff
- web and video content staging - agency B
- review of site - cs community (this may take several rounds)
- implementing changes of review input - agency B
- final sign off - cs community.

As for the link under the Firefox Mission, are you referring the one labeled as "take the challenge"? It works for me.

Thank you,
Peiying
(In reply to Peiying Mo from comment #8)

> As for the link under the Firefox Mission, are you referring the one labeled

I'm talking about the video under 'The Firefox mission' subpage, the general what Mozilla is video.

Can we try to voice-over that after we do the rest of the localization?
Can we also ask the makers of the video to incorporate Croatian strings instead of the English ones??

I'm asking since it doesn't make a lot of sense to localize everything except that single promo video and I like the video a lot and I'd like to have it in Croatian for promotions. :)

Cheers,
N
Hi NIko,

How are things coming along? Croatia is on the roadmap now, thought I don't have the actual date but we are asked to get everything done mid January. The review and corrections do take a lot of time based on all the languages we have done.

How is the recording going? Can you really handle it? If not, let me know soon so we can make plans.

Thank you,
Peiying
Hello Niko,

If you could share with us the final web content today or tomorrow, we can start building the site. Also let us know how the audio recording is coming along.
Attached file Videoscripts HR v1.0
Hey Peiying,

I've uploaded the website text strings. They should be reviewed and complete, but it's possible we've missed something and will edit it in the future.

The voice-over strings are long done as well.
Waiting the recording equipment to arrive, which should be within 5 days.

I'll stay a bit longer in Zagreb to do the recording and I'll try to do the mastering on my own, but I'll leave enough time to send the audio your way if it doesn't work out.
In any case, we'll be done before mid January.

Cheers,
N
Hi Niko,

Thank you very much for reaching this phase of the project. Can you tell me where you upload the strings to? It is a Word file, and did you put it on google doc? Please make it public so all of us can see it.

We will try to get the web content staged as soon as possible. Once it is up on the web, the team can start reviewing and providing input if changes are needed. This is part of the plan.

As for recording, let me know how it goes. And if we need to do the mixing, the production crew at the Mozilla office can do it pretty quickly. Of course, afterwards, you and the team need to review them.

Thank you,
Peiying
Hey Peiying,

The documents live here:

They should be editable by anyone who has the link. So fire away! :D

I'll keep you posted on the recording.
Cherrio,
n
Thank you Niko. The video script is for you and once you are done recording, please update us on the status. For now, we need the master (web) content.

Thank you,
Peiying
Hi Niko, Peiying,
Is the web content document attached in comment 16 ready to be sent to vendor to be staged? has this been finalized and reviewed?

Thanks, Niran
Hi Niran,

Please send https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tlpTo8hvcqsaaLAwwRt_vwgd1zfjCamh_LF1fXVWXaM/edit?usp=sharing to Kineo - yes it was reviewed by the community.
Hi Nathalia,

Please send https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tlpTo8hvcqsaaLAwwRt_vwgd1zfjCamh_LF1fXVWXaM/edit?usp=sharing to Kineo if this was not done before the holiday.

The audio recording is done by the community so they will be shared here once they are ready for staging.

thank you,
Peiying

Hello Everyone!
Happy New Year 2014! May it be even more smashing than 2013. :D

Anyway, what was I here for...
Ah yes, updates.

The Gear is in, and it looks (and sounds!) awesome.
I've tested it and tuned it a bit, and from the looks of it, this should work wonders.
I've only got to arrange a time with the Faculty to borrow their facilities.

I'm counting on doing the recording by the end of the week (if my studies permit it) and doing the editing sometime next week.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

My queries.

Do we have the videos we are supposed to voice-over somewhere in their plain state, eg. without any voice narrating the video, but with any sounds that are expected in it (ringtones, music player sound)?
I'd rather not filter out the English voice out of the videos we have online, if I really don't have to. ;)

Actually, If you can forward everything you usually give out to agencies when outsourcing the voice-over, that should get us up and running in no time.

Second question.

What's up with The Firefox Mission video, in the fittingly named subsite on masterfirefoxos.mozilla.org, which can be also found here:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mission/

Can we, or rather, should we voice-over this video as well?
Can we get the script for it somewhere?
Can we ask someone from the design or marketing dept. (or someone who made/worked on it?), if they can retrofit the English texts in the video to Croatian texts? (Make a slightly modified video*)

Should we put this on hold, and work on it a bit later?

I mean, I'm cool with doing the recording for the Mission video right after the 8 guide videos we have in the roaster for masterFxOS, since we'll be in the studio and everything.
Just a suggestion. :D

That's what I have for you today, eagerly awaiting your feedback.

Cheerio and have a fine Tuesday,
N
Hi Niko,

Happy New Year to you too! I hope you get to enjoy some break as well, free from school work, and volunteering for this.

On the video source, you can give us the audio and I can have the guy internally at Mozilla who mixes soundtrack with videos. Or if you insist, I will have to ask him to upload these video source somewhere - they are usually pretty large. Let me know your preference. This guy who did the mixing for all the other languages and he can finish it really fast, so if you are challenged with facility availability, then send us the audios (we have the script in comment #8).

On the Mission video, you are not the only one raising the issues. Many other communities have expressed the same. So this has been on going. Once we make a decision on this, I will relay the message on what actions to take next.

Well, I'll record the audio in any case, but I'd like to take a swing at mixing
the audio with the videos, just so I can see if I'll be able to do it on my own.
It's no problem to mix the videos and audio once we record the audio tracks,
at least not time-wise.
If I'll encounter issues while mixing the videos with the audio and we're out of time,
I can always forfeit the mixing and send the audio tracks your way so you can forward it
to The Guy. :D

So yeah, I'd like to try it out and it'd be quite helpful
if you can ask the Mastering Guy to upload the videos here.

Ok, thanks for the info!
Keep me posted on the happenings.

Also, If there is a script somewhere for this video it would come in quite handy
so we can record this video while we're doing the other ones, so we don't have to
go to the studio just for this one video if it gets cleared for l10n later on.

My 2 euro cents.

Cheers,
N
+ Spencer who manages video audio production. He can provide the location where you can download the videos to add audio sound track.

Niko,
If you can't put things together in reasonable amount of time, Spencer can take over this, and he can assemble the audios (you provide) and videos real fast. You can review the final work.

Hi Niko,

Thanks to Spencer who created a newer version of the videos. It has Spanish sound track as of now, but you can replace it with Croatian. Let me know if this works for you. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6waf4t11h32jwel/FirefoxOS%20videos.zip.

If you can't do the mixing on your end, please let us know soon. Thanks!
Hey Peiying,

(In reply to Peiying Mo from comment #25)
> Thanks to Spencer who created a newer version of the videos.

Awesome. Convey my thanks! :)

Should I use these new videos for the mix then?

> Let me know if this works for you.

I can cut out all the audio from the video and dub it with our recording,
but I'd be cutting out sounds from the environment and phone
(eg. a song playing in one of the videos) as well.

Do video files that include all the sounds and effects from the phone,
but don't include voices/speakers exist?

If yes, those are the files that would be extremely helpful to me,
once I start mixing the video and audio.

> If you can't do the mixing on your end, please let us know soon. Thanks!

I'll be recording the voices tomorrow and probably on Friday.
I should be able to do the mix during the weekend, maybe sooner.

Does that work for you?
What's our deadline on this?

Cheers,
N

I've just noticed I forgot to mention a couple of things.

The new videos use Spanish captioning and text.

Can we do the same thing for Croatian?
In the same style as in the new videos, but with Croatian captions?

Since using Spanish captions on a video in Croatian wouldn't make much sense. :)

If yes, we can do it in two ways.
You can send all the assets to me and I'll mix the videos,
audio and translate and add the captions.
Or, I'll record the audio and give you translations for the
captions so you can add them to the video.

I'm OK with doing it myself, but I'll need a couple of inputs from Spencer.
Namely, I would need the backdrop for the title scene and fonts for the captions
(or a link to where I can find them), as well as the aforementioned video without
any other voice-over on it.
OFC, all advice and any other assets I may have overlooked are highly appreciated.

BTW, The video scripts haven't changed from what we have here, right?
It's the same in the new videos?
(Can't really make all of it out from the little Spanish I know)

Once more, Cheers,
N
//
Hi Niko,

Please use the "video" portion of the video for your mixing. You MUST remove or replace the Spanish sound track with Croation. We haven't put English there yet. He created this set for a partner in Latin America, and the video is an updated version from what's on the web, but same type of demo videos. And yes, on top of that, the Titles of videos need to be replaced with Croatian as well.

As for the video script - it is the one you and the team worked on. We don't touch the localized content the community created. If you want to change any, it is up to you.

I will wait for Spencer to comment on the technical side of putting it all together.

We are one step closer.
Hi Niko,

It was be ideal to change all text to Croatian, I've attached screen shots of all the text in English so it would easier for you to find the translation as well as a blank blue background for the intro text.

Since you plan on editing and mixing on your own, I can send you a version of all the videos with no text in the intro and captions so you can plug in Croatian text.

I think it I helps if I leave the original audio in for reference points of when audio starts and stops to match what you see on screen, and you can always mute the audio in your video editing program. You'll have to pause the video in certain parts since every language is spoken at different speeds and the video was edited to match Spanish.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Niko,

If this all seems too complicated, you can send Spencer the audio tracks and he can complete them very quickly. Please update us on your progress.
Hi Niko,

I need an update from you on this for my weekly meeting. Where are you with this? If you want to figure out the process, let's do it concurrently: you continue figuring out the detailed process and Spencer handles the mixing for this particular release. This way there is no further delay on this.

Thank you,
Peiying
Hi Peiying and Spencer,

Thanks for the assets and the advice on editing! :)

We did a recording session about two weeks ago, but when I started editing the audio I wasn't satisfied with it, so we decided to do a redo of the recordings.
I've re-recorded one of my Mozillians yesterday and I'll redo the recordings for the female voice tomorrow.

I've edited some of the audio and cut out the video to match, but there's still a bit of work to be done.
So I'd say I'll be done with the editing and recording until the end of the week.

Apologies for the delays, I've been a bit tangled up with my student obligations and my exams are just about to kick in.

Considering my schedule and exams, I can't give you a firm date on when the editing will be done, but I can confirm it won't take long.

For your weekly meeting, I'd say the status is "almost done" and the best I can offer is a preview.

You can find one of the videos edited with the voice-over and captions in the link below.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h96f7axi0z3pnvz/8UjYcP9Xyn

I'm not completely satisfied with it, I'll probably revisit it and crop the video a bit more to match the audio better, but it's almost there.

I'd appreciate feedback from both of you very much. :)

More stuff incoming soon.

Cheers,
Niko
Hi Niko,

It looks very good. How are you with the rest of the production.

I appreciate that you want to make it perfect, but keep this in mind, the site will be evolving when we have new features and new releases. To me, the content as well as the videos will be updated at some point. If we have more time, we would all be constantly working on improving whatever we work on, be it the content, video, audio...

Knowing where your bench mark is set, and let it go, and complete the project, or you will end up having a lot more on your plate.

We do have other projects that need you and the community's attention. There is a lot more need to be done for this project. The agency is waiting for all material available before they start building the site. The next step is to have the community review it. The review and fix implementation take many rounds. Let's start shift our focus in this area soon.

Thank you,
Peiying
Hey Peiying, hey everyone,

May it be amusing and prosperous to all of you!

I'd have to agree with you on all counts. :)
There will be time for further tweaking, but not now.

It's done!
Or I would like to think that is close to being precisely as I'd like it.

You can find the videos in the same link as before:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h96f7axi0z3pnvz/8UjYcP9Xyn

I've noticed a couple of hiccups though and I'll list them for future reference.

1. Firefox Marketplace -> Should we translate the Marketplace part to Croatian, or should we use it as-is, as a brand name? I was of the opinion that it's a brand name, but I've seen it translated and it's voiced so in the video. We can address this, if it's an issue, with a simple audio edit (but I need to re-record Ivona for that first!)

2. Because of some editing voodoo, when I use captions in the "Intro to Firefox OS" clip the hue of the video gets skewed a bit. It hardly visible, but it's there if you focus on it.
If this is an issue, I can address it later (when I get some better piece of AV editing software), or, if its urgent, I can send the strings and a file without the captions your way.

3. The voicing can use a couple of corrections, but I'd say it's good for now.

In any case, thanks for the patience!
This should have been done a lot sooner, but delays got the best of us.

I'd like feedback on the videos though.
If there's something you'd like me to correct in the future, drop the lines.
That's why you're all in need more info :)

BTW You miiight need to re-encode the videos before you put them on the web. They ended on the heftier side.

Hi Niko,

Thank you very much for the new year well wishes! May I wish the same to you, your family and the "hr" community!

Thanks again for reaching another milestone from the perspective of completing the project but exploring the challenges of completing audio/video production. It is no easy task and I hope you have a sense of accomplishment. I will let Spencer take a look as he has is an expert in this area and has an eye to spot discrepancies.

Back to your questions:
1). Marketplace is a product that stays in English, at least for now. If you have translated this, it needs to be reversed back to English. The consistency is not just an issue in "hr", but in other languages as well. We are having this very discussion and will send out an email to all communities to get a better understanding if leaving it in English (preferred) is problematic for your particular language. Some can't because of grammatical issue. Others use different script to Latin based letters don't mean anything to them.

2). I will let Spencer review this and chances are he may be able to do something to it correction if needed.

3). I will take what you have as final for now. I am sure you set yourself at a very high standard and it is good for the purpose of this project.

Spencer will handle any conversions for web use. Not a problem.

We will stage the content on the web for review soon now we have everything. If we need revision/correction, I will post the request through the bug.

Thanks again!
Peiying

Oh it was definitely awesome and educational.
The audio part was a breeze and I learned lots in the process for future recording.
Unfortunately the timing was tight, so I couldn't apply all my new learned knowledge
right from the start, but it's here for our next AV project. :)

The video part was interesting and educational.
A good takeaway was: Don't start a video project without a proper setup. Especially in Linux :)

So, I've got that covered for the next one. (Because this one was a lot of work and loads of crashes.)

Hi,

masterfirefoxos.com has been updated for Croatian, could you please have a look and review it ?
Looks like the videos are still in English though.
Peiying, could you please double check that the vendor has all the videos ?
thanks !

Sure.
I've glanced through the website and it seems fine, but I'll send it towards the localization team to do a more thorough review.

> Looks like the videos are still in English though.
> Peiying, could you please double check that the vendor has all the videos ?

Seconding this.

Also,
Where are we on the Firefox Mission video?
Any progress on that, any green lights to localize it?

Cheers,
Hi Niko,

Please create a spreadsheet if you find anything you want to change, which is expected, like all other teams. Do go through the flows to test out all the questions and answers, as some may not be matched correctly. Here is how German handled their review process, and let's set up the same way so you and the team can communicate what kind of changes you want to make: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AufkiiuZgQPwdGlrQnd4bWhKRHU1LUx3UGhfR0wzZlE&usp=drive_web

On the Mission Video, I have been in discussion with Spencer. He has some localized similar videos already. Right now he is confirming if these are the same as used on this website and if we have all the languages currently supported.

Spencer,
Could you please confirm on your finding?

Thank you,
Peiying
Hi Niko, have you and anyone on the team had a chance to review the site yet?
Hi,

we have reviewed the site and it looks good. You can find corrections to errors that we encountered here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsMgm4bU9LKKdGVzUzhyeVN6SW9ndnpWWXBmS1lfWkE&usp=sharing

Hi Ana-Maria,

Thank you taking the time to review the site. The instructions are pretty straight forward.

Natalia,
Please forward the change requests to Brian. I am adding Flod who will look after the project while I am on PTO.

Thank you!

Hi,

I've been informed that the website for Croatian is now live. Would you like to review it ? Let me know if there are things to correct.
thanks.
Hey Natalia,

We'll be reviewing it through the weekend and we'll send you feedback after the review.

On a short glance, I've noticed the videos are very poorly encoded, eg. they differ visibly in quality from the videos uploaded on different language versions of the site.
I'm sure it's just a case of bad encoding, but it doesn't make much sense to have videos on the site in which you can't make out anything in.
If this gives you more trouble, ping me and I'll see what I can do.

Any updates on this?

Hi Niko,

I see what you are saying on the video qualities. Is it possible that after your submissions, Spencer had to do some conversion before it could be used? None of the other ones have the same issue.

On the mission video, I have not heard back from Spencer either. Basically if we had any in any languages, it was done by a different group of people a while ago.

I or Spencer will update you on this in the bug.

Thanks for your patience,
Peiying
We now have a balanced well lite room, quality of the video has increased ten folds.
I'm working on redoing all the videos as of now. Here is the first of them "intro to ffos"

I've asked the Foundation if they have the original animation for the mission video.

Looking good!
Text in first second of that video is incorrect.
This is correct: "Predstavljanje Firefox OS-a"

That's AWESOME! Thanks for the heads up Spencer! :)

Thumbs up, much nicer!

The timing for the second message fade-in, the one which says "Ima sve", is a bit off.
With the current audio timings, I'd say a good schedule would be something like this:
0.20 - First fade-in
0.30 - Second fade-in "Ima sve"
0.40 - Third fade-in

Since you're redoing all the videos, I can send you the audio files and timings,
if it makes the editing any easier. Just ping me and I'll dig them up.

Cool, thanks!
Post back any info you get from them.
I'd like to do the audio for the Mission video sometime in May,
so ping me when/if we're ready to go with this.

yea that would be easier best if you could send me the audio and the timing.

Thanks.
Actually I just found your original audio, no need to send them over.
Hi Niko,

I've redone all the videos, can you please take a look and see if things sync up.

Thanks.

Hey Spencer,

The videos are good, here are a few recommendations for the audio sync.

The Marketplace video is a little bit off sync.
After the audio pause at 0.23, you should move the second speech part a bit before, probably around 0.25. That should let it sync up quite nicely.

Here Maps video doesn't sync up quite right thou.
This one lasts quite a bit longer on the "...traveling by car... on foot.. or via public transport" part and that the wording has changed.
I can try to write up a timetable for the changes on the audio stream, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea since some of the things shown in the video are not in the same order as in the previous one.
I'd say it would save us loads of trouble of you send me the video and I trim the audio to sync. I can do it later tonight if you send me the video today.

Stay Connected
- you can push the part after SMS a good second or two earlier, so that the audio doesn't end so abruptly.

Camera and Gallery
- has overlapping English and Croatian audio, which is a bit to much :), so I'm not sure if it's synced up correctly

Intro to Firefox OS
- The line "swipe left to ..." doesn't sync with the video action. The video is much quicker on that part than the voice.

Cheers,
Ive made the changes, Maps is a bit challenging since. Ive made a download link for you to edit if you chose too or you can make time stamps.

For intro to Firefox OS, I took out swipe left.

Hi Niko,

Can you confirm the videos are acceptable so we can push to the site? We need to get the site up and ready soon.

Thanks,
Peiying
