Steps to reproduce:

When update availability was showed, press "Ask later"

Window "About Mozilla Thunderbird" doesn't show an Update button.

Expected results:

Update button must be showed in "About" window as usual when update is available.
Severity: normal → trivial
Workaround is to restart Thunderbird.
It doesn't offer an update if you click "check for updates"?
