Some ideas taken from bug 953598 (bio 151), comment 13 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=953598 (bio 151)#c13):

- Doesn't start with the OS by default.
- No UI to set: start with OS

Now that I have a shiny new hammer: could be possible to add a shortcut to the Autorun menu using some Windows API. Would be enough to do this job in my opinion. Could start as extension first.

There may be some relevant code in http://svn.mozilla.org/projects/webrunner/trunk/components/src/windows/nsDesktopEnvironmentWin.cpp (around the Get/SetAutoStart functions).

Sadly, it's too late to work on this for 0.3.

(Since I'm looking at this bug...) the updated webrunner code (which I hope to replace the system tray code with) has this functionality for all operating systems. I don't have the repo available wiht me currently, but when someone gets around to looking at this again!

This Mozilla bug adds support to create Windows shortcuts to Firefox 14:

There is a bug to make Thunderbird start with Windows too:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=899913
This is understandable but uncomfortable.
On the behalf of Florian:
Closing bugs related to the Instantbird UI as WONTFIX, as the development of the standalone chat client Instantbird has stopped. Instantbird users are encouraged to migrate to Thunderbird. The user interface of instant messaging in Thunderbird will feel familiar, as the Thunderbird IM support started as a fork of Instantbird.
