When I connect my VK account, the protocol downloads the contact list and appears: Unknown data received and Failed to login.

This bug is filed against version 1.3.
Could you try to reproduce using a current nightly please and in case that it still occurs, use the "Copy Debug Log" item from the context menu of the account to copy the most recent error messages (to your clipboard).
You can either attach the log here (it might contain md5-hashs of sensitive information) or send it to one of us directly. Contact us in #instantbird in the latter case, please!
