Firefox Nightly and Aurora 2014-01-21 on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit When opening http://html5demos.com/video and downloading the video by right-click, clicking the "Open" button after the downloaded finished won't do anything. Furthermore, calling "Relaunch in Desktop" from the app bar after that hangs the browser.

The issue only occurs if no video player has been set (opening the video files folder on desktop and double clicking the file asks which program to use for that file type).
Summary: Opening downloaded video doesn't work, breaks browser ("Relaunch in desktop" won't work anymore, hangs browser) → Opening downloaded video doesn't work if no default video player set, breaks browser ("Relaunch in desktop" won't work anymore, hangs browser)

I don't think this blocks since the video app has the association for mp4 by default. But we should test the situation where there's no default player to see if we have hand off issues.

This seems to be working for me with an unknown file type. Maybe there was an issue with the video player you have installed?

When I tried to open the file from Firefox Touch's download bar, no application picker was shown. Later I opened the file from desktop and where asked which application I want to use for opening the file (use Video Lan Client). Since this time, opening from Firefox Metro works (I am unsure if I opened an .mp4 file before on this machine).

I reproduced the issue that Archaeoptery reported in comment #0 but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with missing file association. I made sure that the MP4 video format wasn't associated to any application and received a "How do you want to open this type of file (.mp4)?" without any issues. You'll run into the same issue Archaeoptery described when you attempt to open the file using Windows Media Player. I've opened the same file with both the "Metro Video" app and VLC without any issues. I also went through several other video formats that had no association to applications and always received the "How do you want to open this type of file" prompt without any issues. - mp4, avi, ogv, wmv (none of these caused any issues when they were not associated to applications, indicating that the issue doesn't seem to be related to file association) Steps to reproduce the issue: (Using Windows Media Player 12.0.9600.16384) 1) Ensure that .mp4 is associated with Windows Media Player (not the metro "Video" application). Use the "Set Default Programs" 2) Open Firefox Metro 3) Tap on the video that Archaeoptery provided and select "Save to video library" (or use the links listed below) 4) Once the download has completed, select "Open" 5) You'll notice that once you either click/tap on "Open", both the "Download App Bar" and the "Navigation App Bar" will become unresponsive and difficult to use. Only way to recover is completely close the browser and then re-launch it. You can reproduce the issue following the above steps using the following video's: - http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html (the first video) - http://www.808.dk/?code-html-5-video
