I am having problems updating SeaMonkey to 2.24, it gets stuck checking add-ons and never completes and when I exit, quit, I cannot access the internet or web pages afterward. So I have to uninstall 2.24 and go back to 2.14 or 2.23 version

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20131205075310

Steps to reproduce:

Just problems installing or finish installing 2.24,, takes too long to install
and when quit, cannot access internet.

Will revert back to last Seamonkey executable stored 2.14 works for me now
until I can find or if I can find 2.23

Actual results:

I am having problems updating SeaMonkey to 2.24, it gets stuck checking add-ons and never completes and when I exit, quit, I cannot access the internet or web pages afterward. So I have to uninstall 2.24 and go back to 2.14 version so I will do that until I can find an executable for 2.23. I will avoid 2.24 for now. Fix this please. and the OS is WIndows 8 on a Macbook Pro Bootcamp

Expected results:

It should finish installing instead of taking half an hour who has time to wait for this stuff and then it does not work after installed.
Please send me 2.23 I don't trust 2.24
Do you have a tool to make sure Seamonkey is totally uninstalled like cleaning out registry stuff?

Maybe there is some conflict in the attempted update. I will just use 2.14 as that is what is stored
on disc in downloads folder until I can secure a 2.23 somewhere hopefully on another computer.
2.24 update gets stuck finding compatible add-ons ..taking too long to completely install,
i got better things to do.

Try temporarily disabling any firewalls you have installed. Also next time please use our support forums for this sort of thing. Thanks.

See: http://www.seamonkey-project.org/community#groups
Whatever! I have always updated SeaMonkey with firewalls in place, so why
should 2.24 be any different.

I found 2.23 and that works fine (installed even with firewall in place)
so I will stick with 2.23 until you come out with 2.25 (or get act together)
as I think 2.24 has a bug.
I am not jumping through hoops just to upgrade a browser when
I can use Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc. I have other
options than SeaMonkey and NOT have to disable my firewall putting
my computer at risk for potential viruses, Does Seamonkey allow
for viruses to enter ?

I think this is related with (or even a dupe of) bug 957137; see in particular bug 957137 comment#21.

Currter: Next time this happens, try (after waiting some time in the hope that it will complete the check after all) clicking the "Cancel" button in the compatibility-checking dialog. In my experience this allows SeaMonkey to finish loading, and the compatibility check won't be repeated on next startup.

Otherwise, there are links to the download pages for obsolete versions of SeaMonkey at the very bottom of the download page for "All systems and languages", http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/#2.24
