+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #936907 +++

Firefox for Metro cannot support plugins for technical reasons. Based on the large number of bugs filed (e.g. bug 738600 and duplicates, as well as others), this is one of the biggest user pain points in the current version. Barring a complete solution, we should at least mitigate the pain.

Currently, pages that require plugins will usually prompt the Metro Firefox user to download and install a plugin. After the user follows the instructions, the page still won't work. Metro Firefox doesn't do anything to help inform the user that they need desktop Firefox to use any installed plugins.

I think we should write a story specifying a way to and ask the user whether they want to open the page in desktop Firefox, when missing plugins are detected. Perhaps we can use a modified version of the click-to-play implementation for blocked plugins in desktop Firefox.
