Not sure I hit the proper product/component, feel free to adjust. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1003391#c10 It seems like a legitimate request to inform users. Sure the /privacy pages says: "we collect it automatically through our products and services (e.g., when your Firefox browser checks with us to see if is up to date);", but at least the use of Google Analytics should be cited as a second example. Maybe link to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/mozilla.governance/9IQvIubDOXU/0tWVVlrUJOQJ for more detailed information. Not all users who check the box about accepting Mozilla privacy policy can be aware of this sort of practice (website analytics).
needinfo'ing gerv since I believe you'll either be a person who can deal with this or who'll know who could.

Alina is better placed than me, I think. Gerv

Adding Stacy and Mika from the Privacy and Legal teams to this bug. Google Analytics is mentioned in the Mozilla website privacy policy: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/websites/ My guess is this conversation belongs in the Governance forum and not Bugzilla, as noted in Bug 1003391
Thanks, Jen. Is the issue still whether to add a mention of GA to "How do we learn information about you?" (per the last comment in the previous bug - copied below)? If that's the issue, I agree that it's a good idea to include it there. Perhaps it could be updated to say something like "...we collect it automatically through our products, services and websites (e.g., when your Firefox browser checks with us to see if is up to date or our website collects your IP address and analytics data). (Would need someone to make sure what's written is technically correct.) Mika does the privacy notices now, so she would be the person to propose that change to and she would approve the wording. (In reply to percebois from comment #10) > This page could at least mention GA : > http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/ > (in the "How do we learn information about you?" section) That's legitimate indeed. Filed bug 1003804
David - Thanks for raising your concern and suggestion. It seems reasonable and makes sense to mention our use of Google Analytics (GA) in the section of the Mozilla Privacy Policy that you cited as a way to inform users. A link from this section would be helpful, but not sure the link to the Governance post makes sense. The Websites Privacy Notice (thanks for posting, Jen) does describe how to opt out of GA, but the user wouldn't know about this unless they read this particular notice. Jen / Mika - Is there a SUMO or other reader-friendly page available that describes in more detail our use of GA? Changes to the Privacy Policy are now handled by Mika.

Hi everyone, David's feedback is good - we'll work this in our next push of updates to the Mozilla Privacy Policy. We just updated it, so it may not be for another few months before it goes into production in the official policies. Meanwhile, Alina's suggestion of a SUMO page is also good. It would be great to link the SUMO info. to the privacy website, so users can more easily find answers to issues. I'll work with Stacy on getting one up and we can post to this bug when it's done. -Mika
