Description

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)
BuildID: 2001091903

After I tried to load main page at java.sun.com (and downloading
the java plugin for applicaton/x-java-vm from netscape) without
success (Mozilla never registered any plugins after installation)
I instead downloaded jre 1.3.1_01 from Sun. Installing that package
actually made Mozilla register a lot of plugins for java; but the
one missing is for the mime type application/x-java-vm!
Since that is not registered many sites fail to display properly
with the click-here-to-download-plugin link as the only result.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit the site java.sun.com with no plugins installed
2. Install the 1.3.1_01 package from Sun.
3. Visit the site again

Actual Results: The link displaying a message that a plug-in is missing
occurs both after step 1 and 3.

Expected Results: I expected the java applet to be loaded and executed but it
could off course be me that have misunderstood something.

Workaround:
Set the value of "plugin.do_JRE_Plugin_Scan" preference to true.
This preference forces mozilla to serach for the installed JRE if the java
pugin is not found in the bin/plugins folder.

reporter: please clarify how you check for list of registred mime-types?
Did you use Help->About Plugins? Could you please post here
      output of about:plugins?

Reporter: You don't have Java installed correctly. See the release notes:
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla0.9.6/#java

Sepcifically, be sure you have NPOJI600.dll in your plugins directory. This
plugin only registers application/x-java-vm and is the key component for Java.

If this resolves the problem, please close out this bug. Thanks!

Javaplugin jre1.3.1 contain application/x-java-vm myme type as first element
in list of myme types (try Help->About Plug-ins). I do not think jre 1.3.1_01
was bundled without support of this myme type. Moreover, works

I tried jre1.4 as well. Same result.

Propose to close this bug as invalid.
