Hi all,
Greg mentioned that most of you were in the loop in terms of what we are asking for in terms of visualization (small icons, logo takeover) for the World Cup campaign on the about:home page.
It is to my understanding that we're working with an agency to come up with 2 concepts (animation and static large logo) - if we like either of them, we would take those concepts in house and work with creative and web dev to make them live on the about:home.
Chris - I think this was already part of the engagement dashboard but wanted to check in with you if web dev has time to help us with this campaign - let me know if we should set up a specific meeting about this.
Overall asks (copy seen here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=995066):
1)Large animation or static logo take over that will promote the Goal.com side bar.
2)Small 40 x 50 svg (under 100KB...if it can't then needs to be in PNG) icon that will promote the Goal.com side bar
3) Small 40 x 50 svg icon that will promote the Firefox OS goal.com app
4) 96 x 96 png icon that will promote the Firefox for Android Goal.com add-on

Hi all,
Just a few clarifications and updates:
- Jean and I agreed to remove #3
- For #1, the about:home take over won't specifically promote the sidebar (but the snippet copy will). The visuals will be inline with the general campaign identity. Assets coming soon.
- We will likely use the same visual for #2 and #4. Both will follow the campaign look & feel mentioned above as well.

Hey guys - could you please provide a due date?
Greg - is HDSF designing these or are we? If we are, will be providing source files for the overall visual concept?

I will let Jean / Chris set the final due date here as I'm not sure what our usual lead time is for about:home takeovers. On the creative side, the agency is expected to send their recommendations around 5/15. I am not sure what the process is going to be from there. I'm told it may involve some internal back & forth to align creative and implementation.
The desktop and mobile snippet icons (#2 and #4) should be ready by 5/21 at the latest (could be earlier).

Please work with Jean as advanced snippets can range from no-dev-time to complex ones that required dedicated developer activities. Work with Jean on the type of snippets and she let you know what is possible with the tools available now.

Re: the above comments, is there a deliverable from my team? Am still trying to get a sense of what's needed from us on this one.

John, per our chat just now, no immediate deliverable just yet but we may need your team on standby to bring HDSF's design home in a way that works for Chris' team. Since this is not throurougly documented, I am not super comfortable fine-tuning with an agency (may take much longer than if done internally).
We will know more once we see the first mock-ups later this week. Hope this works for you.

Hey Greg,
If we are using our animation template and not doing any special changes then the visual/assets will need to be handed over June 9th.
If we are requesting for special changes, etc. (though I'm still not sure if we will be able to execute), then June 2nd.
Thanks.

Thanks Jean. My understanding form yesterday's meeting is that we will go with option #1, unless we get *super* excited with a custom idea.

Can we get confirmation on the plan? Ty is ready to turn the HDSF static image into a simple animation...probably a gif, like the Web We Want one. Can we pull that off?
Comment 11•10 years ago
|
||
Yes we can! HDSF will send a static 447 x 184 visual. I can ask them to send a psd. Then Ty can apply his black magic.

Hey Ty,
I uploaded the visual on about:home to see what it looks like and we may need to trim off the left side to make it symmetrical with the rest of the page. It's currently at 447 x 184. (I know you won't be able to get to this til later but wanted to note in here). Thanks!

Thanks Jean & Greg.
Ty, let's discuss when you're finish with the usage snippets.

Hey Ty,
Not sure if you started working on this yet (if not ping!) but thought you may find the moz.org carousel implementation interesting: https://www-demo4.allizom.org/en-US/. I like the way Craig animated the ball here, subtle but cool!

Hey Greg,
I havent started on the snippet yet, but i'll be putting something together today to share.
The subtle animation works and i'll look to achieve something similar. Im still considering what the build into the visual is and will look into that today.

Ty when you're done with the animations (and static image with Fx logo), can you reduce this logo to 40 x 50 png? I don't know if this file works or if you need an original file - Greg might be able to provide that if so.
We were originally going to go with the Fx logo for the small icon but Pete requests that we use Goal.com.

Several updates:
1) Still awaiting to hear from Pete if we're good on the animation (comment 20).
2) The Goal.com 40x50 icon (comment 21) looks like a vertical rectangle, is there anyway to make the "Goal" smaller so there's more black space on the left and right hand side? (I know we're stuck with the size restriction) - if it looks bad, or if we can't read Goal then don't worry about it.
3) Pete is requesting that we promote our flags theme collections for the World Cup as well - I know there was a Firefox flag 40x50 icon created for Olympics - can we use that but update with the new logo? I'll attach the old version.

Per Jean's comment 22: for the goal logo, if at least we can reduce some of the vertical space here I think that would makes things better.

Ty, can you advise on Greg's questions above?

Hey Greg,
Here is an adjusted snippet icon. I reduced the height of the container to be square versus tall.

That's much better. Thanks Ty!

Just a reminder for comment 23 if someone can update the Firefox logo for that icon before 6/12?

Hey Ty,
Is it possible to get this icon in 40 x 50? The agency provided me one in SVG form but it's not the correct size. I've attached a 96X96 file. Thank you!
