When a user first creates an account on affiliates the user name defaults to "AFFILIATE." This is confusing and perhaps even a bit impersonal.
Steps to reproduce:
1. create a new account
Expected:
During the new account registration process the username is set

CCing appropriate people for feedback on what we should do to encourage users to fill out a profile name. Just looking for suggestions at this point, methinks.

I was thinking about this the other day...
What if, upon registering (i.e. logging in with Persona for the very first time), when they're redirected to their empty dashboard we instead redirect to their empty profile page and automatically pop up the edit dialog? That seems like a less-than-ideal user flow, but also might be easy to implement. Or else we can still send them to their dashboard but embed the profile edit modal there?
Also, should we *require* a display name? Since we're using Persona in lieu of a more traditional registration where we could simply require it in a signup form, the only way to make them provide one would be to make it a required second step after the first login.
If display name isn't required we need to have *something* to display and it can't be the email address. Maybe "affiliate[ID]" where [ID] is the numeric ID number... so we'd get "affiliate7521" and "affiliate13240" which is pretty impersonal and might encourage people to change it, but at least gives us a unique default.

All work on Firefox Affiliates is on hold as the Affiliates program is slated to be phased out in 2015.
