Details

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.4) Gecko/20010913
BuildID: 2001091303

I tried to read my mail yesterday and I got this message:

"Enter your password for username/popserver@localhost."

where I replaced: - my user name with "username"
                  - my pop server with "popserver"

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. I can always reproduce this on my system
2. (and can't get rid of it, can't read my e-mail)
3. but I do not know how to make this show up otherwise.

Actual Results: The field to change this in Edit->Mail/News Account Settings
in not editable. I tried to fix this by erasing the prefs.js
and prefs.pc8, but after regenerating all accounts and
restarting the software, the same behavior persists.

Expected Results: Maintained the parameters I entered in the wizard for my mail
accounts

I think that this problem would be solved if the
"Server Name" and "User Name" fields were made
editable or if the use wizards for setting up mail
accounts were optional.
This should be a dupe of bug 14295
please reopen if you disagree !

I agree, and stated before , that what is suggested as
the solution to bug 14295 will solve (in fact help)
this one also in the sense that whenever the configuration
is lost it can be easily restored. Nevertheless, the pop
configuration does indeed disappear, and this is different
from this cited bug 14295. I noticed something I hadn't
seen before, so I have to change the severity: although
the text shows up wrong, the mail is still being collected
from the pop servers normally.
Severity: blocker → normal

Resolution: DUPLICATE → ---
Trying to be less generic, one of the texts that shows up is:

"Enter your password for bozinis/pop.amexmail.com@localhost."

where "bozinis" is my actual user name and "pop.amexmail.com"
is my actual pop server. This text should be:

"Enter your password for bozinis@pop.amexmail.com."

May be a simple problem with the output to the screen.

Marking these all WORKSFORME sorry about lack of response but were very
overloaded here. Only reopen the bug if you can reproduce with the following steps:

1) Download the latest nightly (or 0.9.6 which should be out RSN)
2) Create a new profile
3) test the bug again

If it still occurs go ahead and reopen the bug. Again sorry about no response
were quite overloaded here and understaffed.

George is this working for you now?
(quote) Yes, apparently the bug does not occur anymore. I had to manually
recover my emails several times at the when I reported the bug. Now
I am using Windows XP and Netscape 6.2.1 (I do not remember
what I was using at the time I had the problem). I still think the
best solution would be to enable some alternative procedure for e-mail
account creation, using no wizards.

Thanks, George.
