From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:0.9.4+) Gecko/20010922 BuildID: 2001092208 Twice now when the program has been started, the bookmarks function have been activated and the only way to clear it off the screen has been to exit Nativator, leaving only the Mozilla mail screen open. The "X" close function, mouse movement, opening a new window, et cetera, has no effect on closing the bookmarks After opening up the bookmarks a 2nd time, the bookmarks function behaves and can be cleared using the "x" or by moving the mouse around. Very erratic. It seems to happen the first time the program is used upon the machine being turned on. This has not occurred with previous builds. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get turned on (the machine, that is) 2. Start Mozilla! (as a note, Mozilla is set to start both Navigator and Mozilla mail. 3. Click on Bookmarks and if it happens, those nasty bookmarks will stay on the screen until Navigator is closed. Actual Results: The bookmarks stay on the screen "on top" regardless of what window(s) are open - i.e., cannot be closed or exited. The only way to exit 'em (the bookmarks), is to close Navigator. Once starting Navigator again, the bookmarks behave after that and will open, close, go to links, whatever needs to be done, without complaint. Expected Results: The bookmarks function should clear after execution, et cetera.
WFM 2001092208 on Win2k. Reporter: Could you try this with a fresh profile? You can manage/create profiles with "mozilla.exe -profilemanager".
I created a new profile and had a problem with screen refresh - ended up with crashing with an wpcom.dll error. I reentered the program and had no problems with screen refresh or the bookmarks. I'll experiment off and on - it is erratic to say the least.
Please try a Talkback-enabled build: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-win32-talkback.zip Then, if you can get a crash, please post the Talkback-ID here. Also, you may wish to install the latest drivers for your video card (old drivers have been known to "play badly" with Mozilla).
The file downloaded is: mozilla-win32-talkback.zip and it was the one posted 9-22-01 at 1145 hours. It does not generate a "talkback" session.
Reporter: Ok, so you installed the latest build (deleting the old Mozilla directory first, of course). So, does Mozilla still crash for you? And, if so, does "Netscape Quality Feedback Agent" activate?
The "Quality Feedback Agent" is operational and has worked in the past; however, this particular problem has yet to create a quality feedback run.
Well, try the new video drivers, and see how that affects your situation.
Downloaded the latest updates from HP - I'll let ya know.

I am seeing this on Linux with Build ID: 2001092603 also. Specifically, the bookmarks menu pulldown menu does not go away without closing the associated mozilla window. I have not experienced a crash. I'm attaching a screenshot (reduced in size by 50%)
Well, guys, this bug is still living - it's there in build 2001092603. Ben
brentmh: Have you tried this with a fresh profile? You can manage/create profiles with "mozilla -profilemanager" Anyhow, I can't reproduce this, but marking NEW.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
This is not new. It was reported a week or two ago and has been with every build since then, even the new one on the site today. It happens with current and new profiles. It occurs generally when the browser is first opened. If it does occur, close the browser window and reopen it, and that normally takes care of it. It is not new.
I tried both creating a new profile and deleting my .mozilla directory. No avail: I still see the bug. It seems to be easiest to reproduce if you do it immediately after launching the browser. If you browse a bit first it seems to be more intermittent.
bclinger: when was the first report? we should mark this one a dup
I do not remember when it was first posted. I deleted the responses. It's been active for one to two weeks. At first, it only happened when the browser was started the first time after a re-boot. Now it wants to be annoying every time the browser is opened at each session. On occasion it will repeat itself, but normally it occurs only when the browser is first started. Ben
Well guys, this one is a persistent one. It is still there with build number 2001092803 - this time though, the bookmarks do appear and are functional; however, the first time ya wanna use them, you have to double click on the "bookmarks" icon to get 'em to appear. After the first time, they work just great. Also with the release of build 2001092803 - the problem with not being able to fill in a form is back again - I had to delete build number 2001092803 and install a previous build in order to fill out this form. It would not let me enter any data into any of the fields.

I am also seeing this bug on my WinMe box. I have all of the symptoms which the reporter of this bug has posted, right down to having to click twice on the Bookmarks button in build 2001092703. One new observation I have is that I have several folders off my main bookmark window. I am not always seeing the right pointin arrows on the main bookmark window indicating there are folders when can be exanded. I believe it's on those occasions that the bookmark window will persist. That may not be the only times it persists, but so far it's been a good indicator that it will.
You'll, this thing has problems - anyway, the bookmarks function seems to work with this build - 2001092803 - tried it a couple of times and it behaved itself. Now tihs thing has an occasional problem allowing me to fill in the blanks. Over to that bug now - see ya.
Duping this, the newer one has all the keywords and stuff, as well as a fairly conclusive explanation for what causes this behavior. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 101239 ***

Well, with build number 2001100203 - the dang bookmarks do not stay on the screen. Click the Bookmarks icon and they appear and disappear immediately afterwards - it's like chasing a cockroach when drunk - never catch it.
Well, with build number 2001100203 - the bookmarks are still having a problem. Click on the bookmarks icon, they are displayed, move the cursor just a bit, and the bookmarks disappear. This happens lots of times. Close the browser window and open it up again and it works just great.
The bookmarks are still an issue with build 2001100303. This version does not have the bookmarks appearing and then immediately disappearing, no chasing 'em around. The bookmarks still staying on the screen appears to be taken care of. The problem this time with the function is that it appears to require a "double" click is needed on the "bookmarks" icon the first time the function is used and a "single" click for subsequent uses.
bclinger: Please see bug 121239 for that.
Skewer: Uhh, bug 121239 doesn't exist.. Did you mean to type something else?
Well, the bookmarks still have a problem - click on the bookmark icon, they appear then disappear - the old roach is still around. Also as indicated below, bug number 121239 still does not exist.
This bug still exists with build 2001100303 - start it up, click on the bookmarks icon, move the cursor and wow, it's gone like a flashing roach. Also, the referred to bug, 12139, still does not exist.
Correction, bug 101239.
Re build number 2001100403 - the bookmarks FUNction still has a problem - requires a "double click" to get 'em running, at least the bookmarks aren't rapidly going away or having to be chased after ......... (like a cochroach).
Appears as though this bug has taken a vacation with build 2001100903 - it's working fine at this time with several attempts made.
