In the mail preferences chose the following layout: (also set the main window to display all three panes and make sure none of them is collapsed) +---------------+ | | | |1 | 2 | | | | +---------------+ | 3 | +---------------+ Send your self a mail with a really long "subject" string with no spaces [ ], then downalod the new messages and select the mail with the long subject string in pane 2. If pane 3 is set to display the expanded header information (the arrow at the left of the "subject" line must point towards the bottom - click on the arrow if it points to the left) you'll get the following layout: +---------------+ | | | 1 | | | +---------------+ | 3 | +---------------+ (pane 2 dissapears) Seen in latest mozilla trunk build (but also in NS6.1)
sorry, I made a mistake: the arrow at the left of "Subject" in pane 3 cannot point to the left, it can point to right and bottom. So if it point to the right [>] make it point to th bottom [V] (click on it)
I think this is a dup.

Although I didn't immediately see a "long subject" bug which is particular to the alternate mail window layout, we do have several bugs reported about long subjects causing havoc. Whenever the general issue is addressed it should be checked in both layouts... marking a duplicate. There are a few bugs about different long headers... see bugs 47786, 51616, 91662, probably more. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 51616 *** *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 51616 ***

sorry about this dup guys, i tried with "subject"(summary/description) on the "MailNews", a lot of bugs were listed, but none of them looked to have something to do with this problem (i agree, i didn't tried "header")
