The Tab button in the main toolbar is badged with the count of open tabs. If viewing a normal tab, the count is the number of open normal tabs. If viewing a private tab, the count is the number of open private tabs.

The TabsTray has buttons that let you switch between the list of open normal tabs and open private tabs. I think those buttons should be badged too.

This would help users associate the Toolbar Tab button badge with the normal and private lists. It would also help users figure out that a new private tab was opened and is accessible from the private list in TabsTray.

We might even consider showing the "a new tab was added to the list but you have not seen it yet" state with a glow or something.

cc-ing Anthony because he mentioned this while we were talking in bug 1014301.
I can definitely see the value of of an "unread/new" indicator in the tabs.

But a number counter kind of just feels like extra clutter. I'll reserve judgment on it though until Anthony's had some time to explore what this might look like. Would love to be proven wrong here :)

I'll spend some time thinking about this later this week. Some questions...

What was the reason for separating these two counts? If it's to draw a clear separation between Private/Normal mode - we should also pick back up bug 864958 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=864958)

Mock ups pending :P
