Rather than keeping an event "Pending" until it gets P/R approval, can we have an event show as "Staff Only" while P/R is evaluating it and then change to either Public or Staff + Contributors automatically when P/R Approves?

This would allow events to be scheduled and show in at least the staff calendar while P/R dithers.

That smells like a hack but in principle, I like it. I think we'd need to leave the privacy field as is and come up with something on how we list events. 

There is a political risk involved in this. Unless we put a crazy-loud screaming banner on the event that people are forced to read someone might get angry and yammer-tweet and say "Why is this not a public event! Grr..."

People getting angry would be a good thing.  We whip the protesters into a frenzy, give them pitchforks and torches and send them off toward P/R.

I think we've solved this with the new "topic-based" filter for events that need P/R approval.

I'll refile in the future if this is still a problem.
