User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 (Beta/Release)
Build ID: 20140527030202
Steps to reproduce:
Type a search term in the awesomebar and hit enter
Actual results:
Firefox shows "connecting" for several seconds before showing the search results page.
Expected results:
The search should be instantaneous (or as fast as possible) like it is if one use the search box. It shouldn't be too hard to filter out invalid URLs and do a search directly.

Hi,
thanks for taking time to report a problem.
I tried to reproduce this issue on Win 7 x86_64 with latest Nightly (32.0a1 2014-05-28) and there's indeed a few seconds difference between the search bar and the awesomebar in giving the results.
I'm inclined to think this is inevitable, for afaict they work differently (the search bar, for instance, has search suggestions which may indicate that it connects to the server before you hit enter, so the results are obviously faster), but I'm changing the component to "Location Bar" so that the right folks can reply :).
Hope this helps,
Francesca
