Hi Niran. Can you provide more info on what content the infographic would actually need to include? The attachment in comment #1 looks anything but simple to me, so I'm having a hard time getting to illustrating "the simplicity of the process" from it.

Also, is the due date at all flexible?

Hi John, The content should be:

Header- how to reach 500M users in less than a day

3 easy steps:
	1. Test existing mobile site on FFOS device
	2. Create a manifest file (screenshots of MDN pg)
	3. Submit and publish

@ Oliver- any flexibility regarding due date?

Hi all, I just took a stab at this based on the dryboard sketch (forgive me if some of the text is wrong - it was hard to read from the sketch)

Let me know if this is on the right track for you, what you think and if there are any further changes I can make for you. Hope this helps... L

Thanks for getting this project started, Lee! Since the privacy campaign is heating up this week and your bandwidth is about to run low, I'm switching this bug to Matt as assignee (as discussed via emails).

Hi Niran - is there any way we could please push the due date back to this Friday (06/13) or next Monday (06/16), to give Matt a full week on this project? LMK - thanks!

Hi Niran - are we planning on localizing this infographic in the future?
Hi all,

Lizz asked me to have a look and weigh in copy. Here are my thoughts:

Header: It's a big, bold statement and I think we could make it even more impactful if we play around with the formatting a bit.

Matt, maybe it's just a question of breaking it up. Maybe "How to" is a almost like the headline and then the rest is on a separate line (or lines) below. I also think you could try formatting it like this "Reach 500 million users in < 1 day"

Or we could really shorten it to drive the impact:

500,000,000 users
1 day
Learn how

Play around with it and see what you think works. Try both 500,000,000 and 500 million. Stuff like that.

As for the steps, I think we can simplify the first one a bit:

1. Test mobile site on Firefox OS
2. Create a manifest file
3. Submit and publish

Is there any other way to say "manifest file"? That sticks out to me.

It also feels like we need something at the bottom to wrap it up. Maybe something like:

And that's it!
Submit your app today.

I also realize that it doesn't say anything about "apps" at the top. Will it be clear from context that that's what we're talking about here? Otherwise we may need to work that into the headline as well.

Let's start with the above and see how it looks.

Matt, let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Matej, I like these...this helps me out. I will play around with some of your suggestions. I should have enough to get going on, and we can adjust if necessary after the first round. Discussing with Lizz earlier, I envision a retro feel to it, using a muted colour palette.

@ Lizz- I think giving it another week is reasonable.
@ Matej- Thanks for the feedback around copy, regarding using "apps" --the business case is that BD wants to use this as part as conversations/ pitches to technical contacts of app partners so I would think the context of "apps" is clear.
@ Oliver- thoughts on copy?

Regarding localization- we have not considered this but I think it could be very valuable, once copy is finalized I'm happy to help get it localized. I think PT and ES are key. Oliver- any other languages?

Hi Matt, Matej
Thanks, this looks great, few comments from the BD team:
overall message- the feedback is that we should reword this so the emphasis is that it takes one day to create a webapp, the result is reaching the 500M users. Perhaps "create a webapp in one day and reach up to 500M users"

Steps:
The team requested that next to steps 1,2 we show how much time is needed to complete each step. Step 1- 1/2 a day, step 2- 1 hour

Visual:

Step 1- The feedback was that showing a phone with FxOS logo at the top of the screen right below the message around 500M user implies we have that many fxos users, they would like to use a screenshot of a mobile site (m.FXOS.com) instead. Shift focus to the developer site on tested on the fxos device.

step 2- add visual, an image of a manifest file can be found here- https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Apps/Build/Manifest#Example_manifest

step 3- add an image showing the phone with an app icon added to homescreen.

at the bottom, after the 3 steps we would like to list the 3 platforms- FxOS, Android and desktop and total of 500M users to show total potential reach.

Thanks!

Thanks
(In reply to namir@mozilla.com from comment #16)

Hi Niran, apologies for the delayed response - I need to gather our comments and my time was really tight last week. Thank you for providing the feedback from the BD team.

However, the Creative Team collectively feels that this large change in scope with the project when we're already past the due date is going to be detrimental. Our main concern is that this feedback moves the project from a visually compelling and clean graphic style to a more jargony/less clear set of instructions that doesn't have compelling visual representation.

I have some feedback about the specific comments inline.

"How to reach 500M users in less than a day," as stated in comment 0 of the bug, is a big, impactful statement. "Create a webapp in one day and reach up to 500M users" is...not by comparison.

What if we phrased it a little differently:

"One day of work. 500 million users."

"Reach 500 million users with less than a day's work."

"You have an app. We have 500 million users. You do the math."

Would one of those work?

>
> Steps:
> The team requested that next to steps 1,2 we show how much time is needed to
> complete each step. Step 1- 1/2 a day, step 2- 1 hour

This is easy enough. Anything for step 3? Feels weird if we have times listed for step 1 and 2 but not 3.

It seems like a miss to lose the logo from the top of the page. Currently that does a nice job of identifying this as a Firefox piece, so we'd have to find another place to put it if we do this.

Also, we don't quite get the reference to a developer site. "http://m.fxos.com/" is a spam site with the headline "Winning Real Estate Holdings" so I don't think that's what they think it is. We're not sure what "Shift focus to the developer site on tested on the fxos device" means exactly. Can you please clarify this ask?

>
> step 2- add visual, an image of a manifest file can be found here-

We're concerned about showing a visual of a manifest file. A somewhat long, ugly string of code that doesn't feel like it fits in this context.

>

These are things we could technically incorporate, but as a team, we feel that the goal as communicated to us was to keep this as a fun, simple way to explain the process, as opposed to a detailed outline. The amount of content being added would significantly change the layout. It is doable, but would stress that the overall look and flow would change (the way the content filters from headline to conclusion) and not necessarily for the better. Matt would try his best to retain this flow, but we fear elements would start to lose impact and compete with each other, making this a low impact piece that doesn't hit the goal. We feel that this graphic should point to that more detailed info, hence the inclusion of the URL below.

Please let us know your/BD's thoughts. We can go ahead and incorporate their suggestions, but we felt we needed to present the creative issues we see with these changes for your considerations. Let me know!

Thanks!

Hi Lizz,
Thanks for the feedback, few comments from the BD team

"Reach 500 million users with less than a day's work."

"You have an app. We have 500 million users. You do the math."

Would one of those work?

Niran:
The team wanted the message to link the amount of work required= less than one day of work with creating a web app. The part around reaching up to 500M users is the result/ the potential value/ ROI for such work.
Suggestions 1, 2 do not mentioned the creation of web app and the 3rd version is not accurate, since we don't know if they have an app or not, but rather making their mobile site work on MP.

Niran- good point I would say 1 hour for step 3. @ Oliver/ Jose- can you confirm

Niran-
Sorry about confusion regarding site, the intent was to show firefoxos.com site as a mobile site on the device

We're concerned about showing a visual of a manifest file. A somewhat long, ugly string of code that doesn't feel like it fits in this context.

Niran- I understand the concern, you're correct - this is indeed an "ugly" piece of code, but please keep in mind the target audience of this-- this is meant for technical managers, the use case being that either our BD share this directly with the technical manager or the publisher BD person uses this to prove that no significant resources are required to get the app onto MP.

One hour for step 3 is good.
The manifest might not look pretty but it is ok to use. Our audience will understand it. The message is also that the manifest file is as technical as it could get. It is good to use it.
Instead of m.fxos.com you could use m.yoursite.com with "yoursite" in italics - since yoursite is a placeholder. The idea is that the reader of document would insert their m. site when creating their manifest file.

Hi all, I have been working with the team closely on a version 2 of the infographic...one with a clean, technical look and feel. The goal being a more literal approach, outlining the necessary steps using reference visuals. You will notice that the proper screenshots have not been placed yet...I am wondering if there is an issue using FxOS focused images even though there is mention of Android and Desktop platforms? Adding multiple platform images would significantly reduce the size and legibility of what is on screen. Can we get away with only a FxOS phone image in this case? Currently I have placeholder copy beneath the 3 steps, this can be reserved for any additional details if necessary. Looking forward to the feedback.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
You're bringing up a very good point, we are talking about reaching out to 500M users on the 3 platforms and yet only showing how to test and thus target FirefoxOS users. @Oliver- any thoughts?

One other comment- having the 3 platforms listed as "*" meaning as a comment/ note feels to me to much like a disclaimer, a fine print, I would have liked this to feel more celebratory.

Thanks

Comment 22

My suggestion - use the phone image for step 1, the place where they primarily test their m. site
For step 3 use a multiscreen image (phone, tablet and desktop PC) - representing all the platforms the content provider could reach with just one app submission. Am I making sense?

I like the idea of using a multi-screen image for step 3...visually it adds some nice variety to the overall look. Attached is an example of what this looks like. Would someone be able to provide me with the appropriate screenshots for each of the devices? I am also wondering if we are making use of the lines of copy beneath each step?

Hi Matt,
Thanks, we won't be making use of the lines of copy beneath each step, I think it'll cleaner without it.

One suggestion we received on this from TEF was to communicate next to the 3 platforms that it's one app for the 3 platforms, i.e. "A single app for Firefox OS + Android + Desktop platforms",
@ Matej- any ideas on how we can better word this?

Thanks
Maybe we could tweak the headline to be something like:

1 app
3 platforms
500 million users

or

1 day
3 platforms
500 million users
