Now that we have outliner column reordering there is still an awkward problem remaining. When a column is dragged there is nothing visibly being dragged. It used to be that you saw the title button being moved around. However, all you see now is a mouse pointer moving arround and a small line appearing at the position the column will be dropped. This is happening on Win32 and MacOS in build 2001092804.

As of the 1/03/02 Mac OS X trunk build, the reporter's description of the problem is incorrect. Something is visible when dragging outliner elements on the mac. What is visible is a giant framed rectangle that is far larger than the bounds of the element being dragged and takes up most of the screen. You can see this when dragging elements in the 'Manage Bookmarks' window. An example of a correctly sized framed drag rectangle is visible when dragging links on the Personal Toolbar. By contrast, dragging ouliner elements on Win32 gives visual feedback by changing the mouse pointer according to the convention of that platform. As a result, I think that this should be a bug, not an enhancement, on the mac. But, I think that the current Win32 behavior is fine.
It is, however, the case in MacOS 9.x using a late build 0.9.7 (2001122106). Nothing is dragged, the mouse doesn't change shape. All you get is a line in the outliner where the column will be droped.

Amazingly this is still the case with Thunderbird on MacOS X.
